Where my daughter goes to school ( she's in highschool now) from 1st grade until they finish highschool, they must have a C grade or better. Any grade below a 70 you fail. If they don't bring their grade up by the third trimester, they fail for the year.
If a child fails 3 core classes, they must repeat the year. If it's just one or two core classes then they can take summer school or something similar to summer school that's approved by the school.
They only do this in her district. Other schools in her state don't. The only problem most of us parents have with this is her district does not have summer school. They have to HOPE for a spot in another school district who has very limited seats.
So, in other words, if a parent can't get their child in another districts summer school program, then they have to pay for MUCH more expensive option like sylvan etc.
