I was given the FARAD links to see the withdrawals for certain meds and did not see praziquantel on any of the lists. Does anyone have that information? I purchased Equimax to worm for tapes, but want to make sure and see the numbers for a proper withdrawal. I did see that Ivermectin was on the not approved list and Equimax has both. I phoned in to two vets, one said they would have to see my bird ($65) and then send off a fecal sample ($60) and then they could prescribe, but will not give any info until then. I have another that is going to give me a call tomorrow, but I suspect the same. I just want to make sure its safe for the birds and safer for us eating the eggs.

Those drugs are not approved for poultry. They are used off-label for treatment of tapeworms specifically. Any use of eggs after using praziquantel or ivermectin should probably not be used, although many people do after a significant withdrawal time.

I have used ivermectin and observed a 14 day egg withdrawal. With praziquantel, I am not sure if 14 days or a month is reasonable. But that is the reason there is no Farad recommendation for their use. Very few studies on egg residue with those 2 drugs are available.

Are you using this wormer for tapeworms or other worming? Unless I was treating for tapeworms, I would stick to Valbazen or SafeGuard, neither of which is approved for chickens. But most studies say a 14 day withdrawal is good with those.

Thank you! Im curious why that isnt here in the US? My only hangup with Equimax is that I cannot find the withdrawal for Praziquantel and what I can find on Ivermectin is lifetime withdrawal.

We can get Wormout Gel here, just look online. It is oxfendazole and praziquantel. Oxfendazole is in the same group as albendazole or Valbazen. You have not answered the question, are you treating tapeworms or what? Other wormers, SafeGuard and Valbazen, are very good for regular and more difficult worms, such as roundworms, cecal, gapeworm and capillary worms.

That "lifetime withdrawal" stuff is bogus. If you want to be super paranoid, you can go by what a vet on a facebook group says. I think she claims to have been in contact with FARAD, and she recommends an 8 week withdrawal for any amount of ivermectin used.

Its tapes. So with equimax paste, an 8 week withdrawal is good? I know there is the standard of 14 days, but I am " super paranoid " when it comes to what I feed myself and my family :) I just like to see numbers. What does the vet say on the FB group?
Edit: what does she say = what do they recommend?
