Cause what I got looks like flour.

Is there any way to tell if it's really DE? Does it make your tongue tingle or anything?

If it looks like flower you are good to go. I thought the place where I was sold DE but someone went there and after they bought it, turned out it was brown and NOT the DE that is supposted to be powder white.

As long as the bag says food grade, you are good to go.

Yep, it's white. It's the consistency of flour too. No package markings- these folks get it in mass quantities and sell you what you need. I was just expecting something more... earthy

It isn't necessarily a bright white. My DE is a very, very light grey. Some can be slightly pinkish, or even brownish. I spent a few days (literally at *least* 4 or 5 hours each day) on the internet studying up on DE, and not all comapanies who sell it have 'white'. All that is important is that it's labeled 'food grade'.

Mine (from feed store) is sort of dirty grey-brown colored.

It is definitely food grade DE - though it also has some form of clay mixed in, which may affect its color.

The bag gives directions for mixing it into animal feeds to keep 'em unbuggy and noncaking, though, so I'm positive it's food grade.

the DE we've got is white with a grayish tint to it. We ordered like 50lbs of it and there was no specification on the bag as to what exactly it was. Though it's not supposed to be brown like "earth" is (i do know that much...

Yeah, get some on your hands/bare skin - you'll be able to tell pretty soon that its not flour!

That sent me out to the garage for a demonstration

Made sure to shoot with the bag (don't want Homeland Security sending me to Florence and confiscating the `fluff dust'...)
