Hi everyone. First-timer here. I'm new to backyard chickens. I've had 4 now since beginning of May....so close to 2 months now. They are doing great. Happily free-ranging in the yard. My question is this,....How do you stop, or deter a chicken from flying outside of the yard. My fences are 6' high and I have cut one wing from each chicken. So far, everything has gone very well, but it's been a couple of days in a row now and one of my chickens, despite having her wing clipped has managed to make it to the neighbours yard....twice. I feel bad keeping them in their enclosure even though they have plenty of space in there. And I definitely feel terrible about penalizing the other 3 because 1 is misbehaving. So any advice? Can I attach a tiny bell to her leg so I can hear her if she does manage to escape again? Or is that cruel. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys
If one bird is teaching others bad habits.. and ALL else fails to help get with the program.. re-homing to another home that is either confined OR doesn't have fence neighbor issues HAS been used as an option for me.. MY flock, MY rules, My happiness! Not every individual fits in, and that's okay.
