Escaping from the shell...

Update:

First EE to pip made a bigger hole, but then died before getting out of the shell. I opened it up and yolk was all absorbed but guess the membrane wouldn't break to let it out. It had a breathing hole ripped open, but that was all it could do. Wish I had been awake sooner to help it out.

2nd EE zipped all the way around and both halves of the shells just stuck there. I was afraid it would die like the first one, so I broke it open just a little and out popped the chick.

First brown one did die, for unknown reasons. But I have two fluffy yellow Silkie/EE mixes and hopefully the 3rd chick that is an EE will fluff up and live. No pips yet on the last EE or bantam egg.

As of now, it looks like maybe 3 chicks out of 9 eggs to start with. Guess its better than no chicks. I will be happy with that for a first hatch ever.

Thank you

Last update on my very first hatch:

Took the last 2 eggs and candled them. Really big air sacs and no movement, so I broke them open. One had a dead chick in it (would have been a white EE

) and the other was just goo, never developed

So final count is 3 chicks.

Yeah I didn't think of that and maybe my EE mix will turn out to be white also? Was Bella an all yellow chick when she was born, if you can remember?
