The boys of Round Two. 23 weeks.

My three favorites... Whitey is headed to the frypan. Mr Black's lookalike has the yellow feet, and a better comb. But the big fellow with the white feet has the barn I'm looking for.

I culled a roo at 25 weeks, the one in my avatar. He had bad legs and a weird gait. He went out at 7lb 4oz.

There's a size 13 Redwing in the lower right of the second pic for scale reference.

Hmmm...., well, I guess I'll have to let you know about Brownie as soon as it is determined, since there is a moldy donut on the line.

Does the lack of comment on Barred brown mean that everyone thinks she's a girl? I'd love to have 2 girls!

Your white-footed fellow sure is wide! With that shoe for scale

, I'm thinking he's as wide or wider than my Speckled Sussex roo. (Who is really against people now, btw. Anyone want a year old crazy-but-handsome-and-very-fertile rooster? Yeah, didn't think so. Darn it.)

NP, I really appreciate the sleepover idea, and it may come to that. I think I will see if MD has a decent cockerel that he doesn't need and wouldn't mind parting with first, once mine grow up a bit more and I get rid of my current roo, because I do like to have one to range with the girls. It keeps them from spreading out all over the entire property. My current guy is fantastic with his girls, keeping them in a group, getting them treats, dancing for them, etc. - he's just no good with people. Or dogs for that matter.

BTW, if anyone in VA will want a German New Hampshire roo for any of their breeding projects, let me know. I'll have a few cockerels here in a bit.

I love seeing all of the other young birds coming up at the same time. Maybe next year we should have an EO-hatchalong so that we have many chicks of the same age to compare. Hmm.

MD, that boy is wide!!! I can't believe my little guys are going to be that big. They are so cute and sweet. These will be my first roos.

CR, how many GNH Roos did you get? If we find a place to buy before you get rid of them, I might have to get one. A Welsummer/GNH mix might be nice too.
I feel like a mad scientist over here.

Bucka, those all look like girls to me. Nice chicks. I love seeing all the different colors. For me it seems like the female EOs don't get much of a comb early. My 15 week old's comb still looks like it did at 4 weeks old. Tiny and light pink and no wattles. I have some Welsummer girls that have a bigger comb and the start of some wattles, at 10 weeks. I wouldn't be surprised if the Wellies lay before the older EO.

I will be thrilled if I end out with 3 girls! I change my mind on that Brownie every half-hour.
I finally got the chicks moved outside today, and tonight they were all in a squirming pile, like they were cold, but the Eco-glow was on the other side of the pen. I moved it close to them, and we covered the whole pile of chicks and the Eco-glow with an inverted large cardboard box (with an opening cut in the side). They are pretty well feathered, but have never been in cool temperatures. Last night we had frost. Hopefully, they'll be fine.
