What do we know about Mareks resistance with them? I had a Golden Comet die from it a month ago and the recommendation was to not have un vaccinated chickens on my property. That is not going to happen, so I need to work on resistance.

Maggiesdad...I have Great Pyranees Dogs that sleep in/around my chicken pens. Before that though, I buy those 18 or 20 dollar cattle panels with the big squares. I lay them down and put 1" chicken wire on them and attach it real good with hog rings....That way I have 18'panels that will hold anything, even babies and bantums and they can be wired togeather at the ends for any number of configurations of a pen......and....can be unwired from each other easily to move around or reconfigure. I made them that way before I got my dogs years ago and still make them that way....they are really handy and NOTING gets thru and I've probably got 24-26 dollars invested in each one....not bad

just sharing a snap of my two basque chicks at two weeks old, today -- the smaller one is by far the LOUDEST chick of the six (total) that i'm raising, when it's freaking out it's absolutely deafening. the larger one is trying to fly a lot inside their brooder box.

Cuties!

i wish they could all hang out electronically, the way we do! my two are definitely healthy and strong, but am pretty sure i'll only end up keeping whichever one turns out to be female -- will undoubtedly have to locate another pullet or two at some point...

chicks! so much more demanding than the big girls!

My birds from the Easter hatch are 20 weeks old today, and I got my first little pullet egg this morning! It wasn't a Basque egg, but an olive-egger. One of the Basque pullets looks ready though. It's always exciting when they start laying!

Those hog panels are versatile. My buddy has used them for doors, swinging gates and pens among a ton of other things. I would of never thought to do that. Easy to wrap chicken wire around them too. Bend them to make roofs. I guess it what ever the imagination can come up with.

James....your right....I have chicken pens like Domes....Little Houses...Round ones and yes you can cover them with whatever size chicken wire you like...I have some that are 4" squares and only have chicken wire the botton 3 feet for some of my Turkeys.. A grown Turkey will whip the fire out of anything that can crawl through a 4"square...including Bad to the Bone Guineas................
