Yes thanks for the head up MD, I had no idea.  Me, that works at a Vet clinic, have always been told that worms can only be picked up by infected feces :sick .  Yes for some reason my new puppy thinks they are great entertainment.........then she eats them!!  I have dewormed her twice in the past four weeks since I have gotten her and done a fecal test (neg).  The chickens are coming due for their fall dewormer so hopefully I have no problems!!

What do you guy use to deworming your chickens? Ivermectin? Do you have a period of time to wait to eat the eggs afterwards?

Quote: Yes, ivermectin. I get the Generec from Amazon.com. There is no with drawl with eating eggs. There is a with drawl period for eating meat.

You are not supposed to sell eggs when you give them any medicine but that is not a with drawl period.

It does not get into the eggs, but even if it did it would not hurt you. This is the same stuff they give people to treat round worms.

Thanks Ron. How do you give it, how often and how much? Sorry to be off topic.

Ron your girls are beautiful and congrats on the egg. What age are they?

Quote: I use the Inject-able. It is water soluble so you put it into water.

Quote here:

De-worming Methods using 1% inject able cattle overreacting:
Birds up to 6 months old get 1/4 cc of overreacting in the mouth. I want to be sure they get a
good dose since they are the most susceptible to parasites and internal parasite damage.
Grown birds are treated with 1cc of overreacting per quart of water for 2 days. Mix a fresh
batch as needed each day. Birds drink what water they need according to size so I don't
worry about them over dosing. Over dosing isn't really a problem though for it takes a lot
of overreacting to cause a problem. A friend did a test on a bantam rooster by giving the
bird 5 cc of overreacting straight from the bottle. The bird was droopy a day or two, but
snapped right back and live another 6 or so years. If you want to find out more about
overreacting you can find lots of information about it on the web. I have even called the
Me rial and talked to a vet or two there.

You need to repeat in 10 days. Using water is the easiest way to treat them.

You can also use pour on, which does not mix with water. I do not use that, but you put a drop or two under each wing and around the vent. Definitely do not eat the Meat for a couple of weeks after treatment if you use pour on.

I hope this helps!

Hey Thanks Ron.....I use Ivomect on my Horses, Dogs and Birds but was always scared of ODing my birds....now I have a better idea of what I'm doing. And man are you right about the Off-brands. The name brand injectable is about 70 bucks a bottle and i think I paid like 28 for my last bottle of off brand. Most of our farm supplies carry both around here.............Yea Generic!!!!

yes. thanks Ron. good info.
Your Welcome!

I forgot to answer your question about how often. I have been treating with each season change but this time I am going to take a manure sample in for a fecal float test. Ivermectin kills mites and lice too though so if you are worried about those then you could just treat them 4 times a year.

Bye,

I wormed my birds with Valbazen, which I got free from a fellow BYC member. She even came over with an oral syringe and helped me dose them! :). I treated with Ivermectin pour-on at the same time, since mine had mites and lice. And then I re-treated with both in 10 days.
I've only done it once. Maybe I'll do it yearly? I don't know. I didn't eat the eggs for 10 days after dosing, but I fed them all to the roosters I was growing out, since they weren't processed until 2 months later.

Ditch the Valbazen! Eat the eggs!
