Euskal Oiloa ( Basque Thread)

How come my basque pullet has different coloring?

I would also think that this pullet might have the AWESOME coloration of mille fleur which is totally normal...

I have a couple of basque hens that are very small for their age. Or, they seem to be. My swedish flower hen seems small for her age compared to the hatchery australorps, barred rocks and wyandotte that we also have. The basques are between 17 and 18 weeks old. I hatched a couple the day or so before christmas and these were some that I purchased to go with the ones I hatched. They were a little larger than the ones I had hatched.

Anyway, they are laying the teeniest eggs ever. They are a very light cream color. I wasn't sure it was them until I let the other layers out of the coop today and left them inside. One tiny egg had already been laid today. When I went back to check on everybody, there was another tiny egg in coop. Good grief!

My kids can't wait to taste them.

I really wasn't expecting them to lay for another 6 weeks plus.

MSHUNTJUMP,

I have a pullet that looks similar, mottled. My other two pullets that hatched were more of the standard color.

and my two roosters. One closer to the standard for color and one that is whitish.

The three pullets and the standard color rooster are keepers. Not sure of the future for the whitish roo.

I do also have a cockerel. He looks identical to yours.

This is my favorite cockerel because of how dark he is. He does have some white in his sickles, but not solid. This pic isn't quite his type either. I think he was trying to show off.

These are some quick shots of the cockerel who is skittish but more to type. The wind is really showing off those sickles nicely huh :)

Ashandvine - Love your roos. They look so happy and content :) Does the first cockerel pictured not have a pointy comb? It looks solid almost in the pictures.
