Euskal Oiloa ( Basque Thread)

I hatched some Marraduna Basque Hens about a week ago. This batch of chicks is extremely prone to pasty butt. I have to bathe their little hineys daily to keep them poop free. I have been feeding them standard medicated chick feed. Do you have any idea what they should be eating? Because if they were on their own they would all be dead now
.

Give them plain yogurt and probiotics in their water. I put the yogurt in a jar top. You may have to dip your finger in it and put it on the end of their beak to get them to eat it. Get Save-A-Chick probiotic packets and put it in their water (1 packet per gallon - 1/4 packet per quart). The water needs to be changed daily. Try that and you should see a difference within the week!

My chicks love moistened feed, so I mix kefir and water in with the medicated chick starter occasionally for probiotics.

One of my Basque roosters looks like he may have gout, or some other swelling of the feet disease. Late in the winter, he limped a bit on one of his legs. We examined his foot and found nothing. Now, he is no longer limping, but yesterday we noticed his feet and toes are definitely swollen. We haven't had a chance to examine again and make sure it isn't bumble foot. Hopefully this weekend.

Hello... I am in PA and I have 4 Basques...I hatched them from eggs and unfortunately, I think I ended up with 3 roosters and only 1 hen... I am searching for some hens... would anyone be interested in a trade?
