Just how do you go about weighing a chicken? Is there a special scale? I have a postage scale, but I don't think they would cooperate and stand quietly on the scale . . . .

I just set ours on the scale coming out of a calm football hold. Keep their back line tilted about 20-30 degrees below level (head low), then gently bring them up level and support them until they get their footing. Then as you finish placing their weight on the scale, and take you hands away, you'll have at least 3 to 4 seconds to get a reading. Most of my birds I go on and lift off and set them aside.

These birds have been handled a lot, between me and three kids, but out of 23 birds, only two were reticent and shy - the rest will come to you and allow themselves to be picked up.

Very happy with my shipped eggs from Skyline. 12 outta 15 hatched. All were fertile and only one was an early quitter. Two had internal pips then drowned...? Not too shabby at all! Now I get to watch them grow. Sweet...

Here's a shout out to Skyline, and to the other folks who have ordered EO eggs.

I ordered a batch of 12, and Skyline (James) sent 15. I was very happy because they were all perfectly wrapped up. On day 3 I could see development and little hearts beating, it was really awesome. 100% fertile and going, pretty freaking unbelievable. Those egg shells were also pretty thick, and strong, so it was challenging to candle.

Today is day 5, I found 3 early quitters with blood rings, and the rest are all developing really well. I left the ones with blood rings in there just in case until day 10. I'm hoping all the 12 will hatch. This is pretty phenomenal for shipped eggs, I don't think I've EVER had 100% development on eggs. I am very excited, but I'm also commending James on his egg-cellent eggs, and I'm sure pretty awesome breeding program.

Good job James.
