I didn't tell him he was handicapped so he doesn't know. He doesn't want me to treat him any differently.

Same approach with my child. And imagine that, he acts like a "normal" child I like your thinking. I also take this approach with my chickens but on a different level.

OMG, OMG, OMG!!!!!! Problem chick made a complete turnaround today! I cannot tell him apart from the others. I study really hard and I can only tell which one it was by his looks, not by his legs. I am so SOOOOO EXCITED!

Nature - no, none of them have any spots at all. Some have a hint of gray here and there, but no definitive spots. Various shades of yellow & yellow/orange. And one has a white back is is just so darned cute! Oh, and I see you have mastered chicken math!

Awww! How cute! I love baby chicks! I sometimes wonder if "some" leg issues are genetic? I don't know?

I have 6 pullets and 2 roos so far. I have lost 1 to a predator, my dog, I have him in lockdown and he is supervised when out.

Here's a Eo story:

I have my EO's in my DH "old" shed that has no windows(yet). Well I open the doors to let them out. Well it was really windy out and I was working in my coop which is up a hill and about a block away? Well anyways an EO pullet came up to me and was peeping+pecking my shoes and I looked around and noticed she was by herself. So I picked her up and took her back down to her shed and seen that the door had blown shut! She had come up to where I was to tell me the other EO's were shut up and needed to be let out!

I have two! That is it...I didn't candle very well...it depresses me...Congrats to the other new EO chicks... One of the little ones hatched yesterday..day 20 and one today day 21...both seem fine...

That is AWESOME!!!! Congratulations! Sometimes the resiliency of chickens amazes me.

Sorry about my crooked toes confusion. I miss my 50-posts per thread pages where it would have been easy to go back and check.

Leg problems can be nutritional or genetic as well, but if accompanied by a late hatch, temperature would be the most likely culprit, especially if other people are hatching chicks from the same source without having the same problem.

Maggiesdad, you are killing me here! They are just gorgeous. Gorgeous. Those boys have nice, robust shapes to them and I think the coloring looks really good.

Now that is awesome news!!!! so glad you didn't give up...teaches me a lesson in perserverence!
Still a few more weeks till mine arrive, but have the 'nursery' all ready.....even thinking about names for them, lol
