~ Guess the Gender ~

At three weeks the guesses were:
blue - roo
brown - pullet
green - roo
Hobbes - undecided
purple - pullet
red - pullet
white - roo
yellow - pullet

Now five weeks old:

HOBBES
So Hobbes is a Roo? Right? I was looking at mine chicks that are five weeks old now and I have a couple that look like Hobbes. Hope they are doing well.

Cj, my older girl is darker like the one in your last photo on the left. My younger is like the one on the right. I think we want the color on the right for breeding, but I like all the different colors.
Good looking bunch.

I like all the colors I have, but there doesn't seem to be any consistency in the coloring. I have eight chicks, and they all look different. I think the one on the right is the color we should be striving for.

My hatch for the Mahonri's third annual Easter Hacth along is finished.

I hatched 11 of the 13 I put into lockdown.

They are doing well and I am very happy.

Here is a picture of a real character:

My Easter hatch is basically finished also, just a few eggs left in there that I plan to candle and likely discard tonight.

I had 5 of the 11 that made it to lockdown hatch. Actually, I had a sixth one hatch late (today), but it does not look good. I can see that it is still breathing, but it does not move or peep at this point. I'm going to leave it in the incubator and see if it dries off and recovers. Luckily, everyone else is in the brooder, so he won't get trampled.

The chicks are adorable! I can't wait to see them grow. :)
