How is it that you have the perfect EO flock already? And that rooster!!!!!!
Soooo jealous. Must buy more EOs....
This is Lewis, my absolute favorite! He is a sweetie and way too smart for his own good. He watches everything we do. He saw that I didn't turn the top on the food container all the way and immediately opened it to get himself a treat! I know he isn't the color that everyone seems to be striving for, but I'm still keeping him for his personality. I have another boy, Clark, who looks almost identical and has a very similar personality. They both started off almost solid white but have gained substantial color over the past few weeks. Has anyone noticed any correlation between color and personality?
I saw that naturespace agreed, and I have had the same experience too! Our boy is - hmmm - 4 weeks old now and is still solid white. He's the smartest, friendliest, and biggest of the bunch - and quite noticeably so. Verrrry interesting. I'm curious to see how they feather out.
Does anyone with older stock have a picture of how the white male chicks feather out?

Has anyone posted egg photos from these birds? I admit to not going through the entire 116 pages, but I would like to see some egg pics if they exist

This is a picture of the Basque eggs from Skyline going into the Incubator:

And at Lockdown:

Mine hatched on Easter Weekend, so I won't have eggs from them for quite a while.

For now I get to watch and wait.

Thank you Chestnut Ridge and ronott1 for posting pics of eggs. They sure do look big!

It sounds like this breed is very dog-like in personality. I may have to get some eventually.

Well, I don't have a solid white boy, but my friendliest has the lightest color. Even his legs are whitish. I am finally starting to notice their friendly characteristics. My chicks all run away screaming if I reach into the brooder, but if I sit there with the cover lifted, the Basques will hop up on the edge. They squawk if I pick them up, but then I can set them down on my leg and they will let me pet them. The other breeds that will hop up on the edge of the brooder quickly fly back down if I move my hand at all. I've stopped trying to guess their sexes (sort of :p ).

my flock that is 12ish weeks now are really starting to show some personality. i have the 2 roos, one that won't get near me and never has, and the other that used to sleep in my arms like a baby. he has started demanding my attention, squawking at me, pecking the crapola out of my feet to the point of real pain and now he is biting HARD! yesterday he got me on the wrist but on the underside of it and didn't let go. i had to thump him on the head a few times. around here, rotten roosters get eaten. maybe not by me, but i'll find someone to have him over for dinner!

another observation, the brown pullets are much friendlier than the mille fleur ones. anyone else have the same thing?

Others on the EO forum said that the wrist thing is a mating behavior. So he might think you are his girl.

I don't have a Millie. So ia can't say but I bet that would be a good question for those on the forum.

My chicks are also 8 weeks old, 17 of them. I let the pure white chicks go. Of the rest, some are definitely more friendly than others, but it doesn't seem to be related to color. I have been hand feeding them every day since they were little, and several would much rather eat out of my hand than a freshly filled feeder. Generally they are less spooky, more curious, and friendlier then most of my other chicks, except my delawares which are very similar in behavior.

I have 7EOs, 4 cockerels and 3 pullets. They are all very sweet in temperment. Three of the boys are very sweet, but one of them is a little more stand offish than the others. I really love them and they are getting so big! I need to get some updated pictures of them. I have a pair of Whites, a millie fleur hen, a grey/white hen, a HUGE lovely rooster that is a mix of colors (named Tabasco), then a lemony cuckoo roo, and then a white/fellow/grey roo. They are around 5-6 months old I would guess. Maybe not quite that old. They are really getting big, and fat! ; )
