I agree with dainerra's post but understand the ongoing care the vet has given the dog.
Did you have the discussion with the vet on prior visits regarding cost of care and quality of life for the dog since it had so many health issues? If yes, your vet may not be engaged with you on a personal level. I had to put 2 dogs down in 2012 and while I've always found the desk staff helpful and empathetic, I would speak to my vet directly regarding the painful decision to let them cross the rainbow bridge. This vet was very engaged in my dogs' well being.
I'm sorry for your loss. It's a tough decision to make.
Vets are human. Just like people doctors, some have better bedside manners than others. Or you just may not mesh with them. If your family decides to get another dog you may want to develop a relationship with a vet that suits your emotional needs when it comes to your furry family members.
