even if chickens arnt laying do they still need layers pellets?

i will not sell/give away any of them even if i have to rob the feed store and i can afford to feed them it would just be nice if there was a way of saving money

Fred's Hens :

Lots of folks are being pressed economically in feeding their flocks. They cannot afford to do so anymore, especially with ever rising feed costs. The answer to all such posts must be consistent. Reduce your flock to a point where you can afford to feed them properly. Reducing the quality of feed below what is required for poultry health, simply isn't an option.

You might want to shop around, (if you haven't already), for some. Prices can vary so much. Coupons can help a great deal.

Also, you can supplement their feeds with certain feeds, etc. I supplement ours with small brim I catch in a trap. The extra protein has been good for them and
the cost of brim to me is "0". NOw that it is winter, they REALLY seem to enjoy it. It also brought their egg laying up.

Some folks on here have even tried growing their own meal worms.

Like the others and I stated..dont substitute unless its the same nutritional value...It would be nice for all of us to cut costs but we dont--just like you dont have too but want to...I have over 80 and would LOVE for the free ranging Summer to be back:)
