Even number vs. odd number of chickens

I have a little Gang Of Seven "teens" who were brooded together and in their grow out coop together - they all hang out together, returning to that coop as a group. 5 Olive Eggers (two of which are cockerels), 1 Black Jersey Giant and 1 Light Brahma. They investigate the yard as the Gang of Seven, too.

The correct answer is odd and even! You start off with an odd number of birds, then you just keep adding to the flock with even numbers, and somewhere in between it balances out just right! One is the only "odd" number not recommended when doing chicken math.

Yeah, they do seem to develop cliques... Before it was the 4 from a flock we were given and the 2 poor EEs (who cowered off in a corner), but now that the flock is more cohesive, it is the Buff Orps and then the EEs & RIR. The two EEs though... are really sisters/best friends, they groom each other, snuggle, and it is really quite nice to see. But they all get together at night and get along, pretty much, they still have the pecking order and tiffs.
