Ever ask a total stranger at TSC to buy chicks for you?

A glitch in the "don't tell hubby" plan -- the TSC chicks are arriving a day or two before the Meyer chicks -- can I claim they're "advance scouts"

? Seriously, I did tell him I was planning to buy a couple of early birds, so to speak, because they're silkies, but also as an insurance policy for the kids in case the shipping from Meyer goes badly awry.... So I'll ask around first, then take the plunge for all 6 if I have to.

I don't think there is a minimum here, but our rural king and places like that sell a bag of feed and give out 25 chicks with it which is pretty cool

Oh dear, deerhunterblp, what time did you arrive? I'm hoping if they open at 8 I'm okay to arrive 15 minutes early, but should I try for even earlier...?

And yes, jvls1942, you're totally right, I'm not seriously planning to try to fool DH. He's a sweetheart, he won't be angry, but he's been such a good sport about this chicken thing that I don't want to go TOO far overboard....(Is that possible with chicks?)

I agree, check the other TSC's in your area. We were at three different ones last week, all within a 50-mile radius of our home in Kentucky, and only one had the six-chick minimum rule posted. We bought four ducklings at another store and no one said a word. Plenty of people were buying less than six at the other stores, too, so it wasn't just ducklings they sold in smaller amounts.

That said, if it were me, I would help you out with the purchase minimum. I don't think anyone would have a problem with helping someone out like that.

I had a guy approach me about buying one extra duck for him, he said he wanted it for his daughter for easter...I tried to get out of doing it but my husband was insistant that we do that for him. I have not yet forgiven myself for that because I know I enabled someone to make an impulse purchase and it goes against my ethics. Not that I am saying you are doing that...I guess I needed to confess about it. I am having a hard time with the thought that I sent that ducky off to possible death. UGH. Sorry, no better place to confess than on here. I should have stood my ground with the dh.
Soooo, I guess the whole purpose of me telling all this, is for all of you to be ware of the impulse buyers for the "easter present" and not the true byc'ers.
Let me add that on the positive side, I met some really nice folks while standing in that line and spread the BYC name,lol,
