Yep I feel gerrible. I finally had to switch out my head roo. Now before you judge I didn't eat him or pass him on to some unsuspecting chicken newbie.Heck I didn't even doodle do ditch him.I gave him back to the people I got him from, yes I returned a used rooster. I explained his "situation", that he wasn't mean or lazy he just got hurt and healed up with a super active ahem....drive. Well luckily this fella is rebuilding and making his flock more diverse he actually had a need for my turbo rooster. Oh but I feel so bad the look he gave me when I crated him was pitiful I could actually hear sad violin music in my mind. I had to do it though he was just too much man for my girls and he was prison scaring the bejesus out of the little cockrels. I could have penned him but how fair would that be? I do feel better knowing he's doing what he loves best "with about thirty more hens than I have." Doing the right thing just feels terrible sometimes.:(

Sometimes doing the right thing is hard. Try not to anthropomorphize the situation. The rooster doesn't care, and it only upsets you.

I know, I know but after hearing some of the stuff that comes out of other people's roosters he was honestly a good one he just couldn't stop the wango tango one good thing is the girls aren't upset, I got him up very quietly and they didn't see me so I've saved myself that little bit of guilt. I'm just a softie, that's a permanent condition I'm afraid. :)

Hard choice, but a good one! He's happier, the original owner is happier, and your girls can get some peace!

Love your turns of phrase ;)

This morning starts a new chapter in my chicken experience, I am now cockrel free! Sent Cletus who was Hubert the machine's son off to his new home where he will have six ladies and two turkey ladies. The send off was uneventful, he bit me in the exact same place he bit me yesterday and his mom Marlene wanted desperately to kick his butt one last time. I do still have Negan who is technically a cockrel but I don't think he knows it so he doesn't count. It's so peaceful! My little boy is off to become a man or a turkey, makes a mom proud.
