ever feel like you are tattling?

I think people that are verbaly abusing others and posting inappropiate things should be kicked off. There are plently of disgusting websites for them to visit. But I wouldn't report someone for anything other than that.

I have absolutely reported and will do so again.

I am not "report-happy" though. I own a message board (non-chicken related) and myself and the admins there really appreciate when people report inappropriate or inflammatory posts.

Now, of course there are those that report every little thing.

Or the ones that have a grudge against the person posting.

But, when we see who is reporting, we take that into consideration.

On our board, if someone sees a topic that might get ugly, they let us know so we can keep an eye out. That helps a lot. That way we aren't blindsided by a huge brouhaha.

Reports are always confidential and usually just a "Hey-that was a little inappropriate" pm takes care of everything.

The mods and admins can't be everywhere at once and can't read every single post. I think they depend on us to be their eyes and ears to keep the board safe for everyone on here.

As far as it being only a chicken board, the Admins have set aside a place for people to visit in the Random Ramblings area. If you don't like the social part of the board, just don't go there.

I enjoy visiting with other members. There is a lot of support here and this might be the only support some people get. Also, if someone has chickens, odds are, they have some other kind of animal, too. Should they not include the other animal areas on here? I like the set-up. They've got lots of different areas for a lot of different interests. Obviously, it works. There's over 20,000 members! LOL!

Please let me clarify my posts. I am 100% FOR threads that are not about chickens. We all make friends here, and there is a vast number of non-chicken subjects. I am ONLY talking about empty nonsense filler.
I respect everyone's reply, and none of it will be taken personally as I believe in "agreeing to disagree".

I have only been on this site for a short time, but I have yet to see anybody get vulgar. Maybe after I have been here for a while. What I have seen is people get upset because the don't agree with another, and feel that disagreement is offensive or gibberish (not pointing to anyone just being a copy cat).

In all fairness certain topics do not belong here, but then it is not my call just my opinion.

1) Politics
2) Religion
3) Adult topics
4) Animal cruelty or any anti social behavior
5) Any Race or ethnic references that may or may not induce flaming.

And in my opinion they should be enforced fairly. This thread is a thread that I can see getting out of hand. I think if it's non offensive that even back and forth greetings are OK, but some would consider that gibberish.

Tattling is not a bad thing when it is done responsibly. Sometimes it is, sometimes it is not. Before you hit the report ask yourself why you are reporting. And if a post is truly offensive and you do not report, ask yourself why not.

I just have to comment on this. Yes, this entire site is dedicated to chickens. There are 20+ forums for information regarding chickens. This forum is Random Ramblings and the definition for this forum is: News, Current Events, Off-Topic Discussions . There are what, 8 forums give or take that are not solely about chickens. I for one find it enlightening that the people here can talk about other things besides chickens. I am not just a chicken keeper and I like that I can come here and post about non-chicken related things and have many different viewpoints. I am not bashing you for your opinion, truly I am not. I have just seen this come up on more than one occasion and felt the need to say my piece on it. I have seen some posts where people run at the mouth, but I just choose to ignore it and move on.

Now, on topic, I haven't reported a post yet. I figure with over 20,000 members, someone has already reported a problem post. I really try not to post something that is against the TOS, but I am human and make mistakes. I think that of everyone here as well. I guess you could say it is tattling, but I guess that just depends on your viewpoint. You could see it as tattling or like The Chicken Lady said and see it as "housecleaning". It is all in your point of view.

I think it's one thing to be off-topic in the random ramblings section and an entirely different thing to post adult conversations on a family board. People get so caught up in their random ramblings that the forget that this is a public PG rated board and they aren't in their own private chat room. I've posted on a thread before and the others posting on it were genuinely surprised that anyone else was reading it. There are 20,000 people that are members here- someone else is bound to be reading your conversation.

I deleted my post, the way I wrote it caused misunderstanding from what I meant it to say.
Buster's reply here is what I meant to say. Sorry

I think some folks are lonely or missing something in their lives, and so they pop over here and post a new thread about something really out of the field.

I've got plenty of attention and stuff going on in my life, now and again I get silly here, but I don't think I've started a whole thread on what I'm wearing today, or how many times I've been to the bathroom.
