Yea thats the way it works here too. Also you can get your permit when you are 15 IF you pass Drivers Ed. Which he did not
However the teacher expressed to Kenny that he just wasn't comfortable while Raymond was driving because of the issue of his only having the one working hand. I think it was BS that he didn't try to help with the disability. There are millions of people in this world that drive with a disability. He even promised to find who to talk to about provisions that could legally be made to a vehicle to assist Raymond. I have never heard from him after that. The hardest thing for him is putting the visor down without swerving (insert nervous smiley here)
So was Colton 15 when he got his then?
In some states you have to have a "steering wheel spinner" installed on the car if you only have one arm / hand that can be used for driving. They may also restrict him to driving an automatic transmission. These could be listed on his driver's license. The spinner is not expensive.
The reason I remember these is because I have driver's license restrictions due to my vision -- I remember seeing the other one on a list in a couple of states. I'm required to have mirrors on both the left AND right sides of the vehicle. You'd think those were required for everyone, but apparently the right hand mirror is not...
We have been told that the spinners are illegal here, but that wasn't official info
I think they are, on just any car but I would think as an adaptive device for a disability they should be ok. When he takes his test next week i am going to go in and ask them. Surely there is a list of approved adaptations and rules for such equipment. I hope! Yes on the auto tranny. I would not feel right with him driving a stick anyway, I really don't think he can. He has to have 100% concentration to drive safely as it is. It scares the crap out of me honestly. I mean he does all right now, but he is only driving on the gravel a very short distance with little or no traffic and certainly nobody else in the car, except like last night when his friend came home with him. Oh God grant me the strength!!
