Okay, let me try to make this long, drawn out story as short as possible. Let me know if any of it doesn't make sense because I have spared you guys most of the rant I have had during the process of putting this show on.
Tyler is our local station winner. He is 22 years old and apparently coddled by his family his whole entire life. From the start, he never communicated with me, his mom did. I spoke with his mom 2 weeks after the show and she said he had nothing ready to turn in for the state show, I told her to come to the station and we would help him take care of it. His deadline of July 9th came and went and nothing. We assumed everything was done. A few weeks later his friend's mom called with "help, he has nothing done". So, we set up a time to hold his hand and get everything in. Over 3 weeks late and less than a week before the state show.
Day of show, he doesn't show up for rehearsal, can't get away from police academy. Meets me at gate (about an hour and 15 mins before show, he had been there 30 mins before that) and visits, producer comes up asks me a few questions. I assume everything is fine. Right?
I sit down to enjoy the show, the emcee/program director says "I suppose you know Tyler isn't here?" (this is 5 minutes til show time) I was like
His mom went to find him, the next thing I know (at this point the show has started) She comes to tell me Tyler is disqualified. Again
So, I go find the producer (from Nashville) to see what is going on. She is like
because of him not checking in, being late with his stuff, not coming to rehearsal, etc. He copped an attitude and she told him he was outta there! I go to bat for him
and talk her into letting him perform with the stipulation that he not sing with the band and he does it cold. I talk to Tyler, said this is the way it is, take it or leave it. He wants to change songs,
I tell him to get his butt up there apologize, ask if he can sing and do it or don't.
He is totally clueless about his order of appearance and everything. Like he couldn't care less. Long story short, he did wonderful, I was like
and
.
After the show, I look over and some of his "mob" is
at the producer. I walk over to hear his GRANDMA say "I am going to whoop your ***"
Now, guys I am usually non confrontational with people. But, I say "tell her thank you for letting him perform and move on". They are demanding numbers and names to report her, I tell them to call me tomorrow and I will fix them up. They are still going on. Hubby had to take them away.
It was a freaking mess and his ungrateful family made fools of themselves and us. If I had known they were going to be that way, I would have disqualified him myself. I am still so
that I know I am just rambling!
