I didn't see it, but I read that story yesterday on MSN. My goodness, I can't imagine what that family is going through! It is natural that a dog/cat carry their babies in their mouths to transport and I didn't see anything in the story to indicate that he/she was doing anything mean to the baby, just taking care of her "baby". How could you even anticipate something like that would happen? I will quit now.

How bout that coon story?

Yesterday morning 2 of my chickens were dead in the coop. Best we could tell, a coon had gotten in. So we patched up the coop and set a live trap last night. This morning, the trap was sprung and sitting on top of it was a jr. In the coop with the chickens was another jr. And in the trap was mama and another jr. Hell, I was feeding the whole family! Without going into details, all chickens were ok this morning and the coons will not be back. Funny thing, our jack Russell ran into the coop after the coon in there and our 2 yr old farm cat ran right in behind him. She was right there, snarling, all poofy tailed, gonna get that coon! I couldn't believe it! It was a stand off. Dog and cat on one side and coon on the other! Picture this...me, in my pj's holding a flashlight, lookin in the coop yelling BABY KITTY! (that's her name) BABY KITTY!Come here! Dog barking, chickens clucking, coons snarling! Geez, what a way to start a day!

While we are waiting, I want to ask you about your fish. I have a goldfish in my office that if the tank wasn't so dirty, I would show him off. My daughter and her then boyfriend had to make a flower plot for a biology class a few years ago and decided to add a fish pond. So, we bought 10 feeder goldfish from Wal-Mart for like 29 cents each. We put about half in there and kept the rest in case some died before it was graded. 2 lived until about a year ago and now we are down to one. Almost 3 years later, I have this huge goldfish in my tank that eats anything I put in with him, so I call him Hannibal! He likes to throw rocks at the walls when he is hungry and back in February he got stuck in his tunnel and it took us forever to to chip him out of it, tore off some of his fins, the rest turned black, thought we were going to lose him, but he is now big and beautiful (for a goldfish) and I don't think he will ever pass on!

Just thought I would add that story!

Did anyone take pics? Seriously, sorry about losing some of your chickens! We have had a few coons around, but luckily none have gotten into the coop. And I am pretty sure I don't have a cat on the premises that would get up off their duff long enough to chase a coon! I have learned not to feed the cats after dark, we have had a coon, possum and other creatures wander on the porch for that. The bright side is that your day should only get better from here on out!

cool goldfish story-3 yrs huh? how big is it now? we netted some inch long baby bass and pserch from our pond and put them in a huge fish tank-we had them for about a year until they got 4 inches long and starting eating eachother-we had to buy feeder fish from wlamart to feed them besides all the worms and such-what a smelly mess!

I bring Baby Kitty on the back porch at night and keep her locked in. Her mama disapeared about 2 mths ago and since then, I have been keeping a close eye on her at night. My DH is going out of town today and won't be back until tomorrow. I am going to have to set the trap again tonight and deal with what ever happens in the morning. Oh, the joys and wonders of country living! I can't let those coons keep terrorizing my poor peep pees and I have seen another coon lurking around so I know we have more. Michelle, get your poor fish a girlfriend!

Here he is please forgive the poor quality cell phone pic, dirty tank and my reflection in the glass. I had to take like a dozen just to get a good one. He doesn't sit still much! He is probably a good 4 inches.

While I am at it I am going to show a pic of one of the new kitties. This was taken Saturday at 15 days old. He is sleeping on his back and is the chubbiest, fluffiest baby I have seen in a long time!
