Ever feel lonely when you dont have any PM's waiting for you?

Alone time is great, but when I actually get it, I don't know what to do with it!

And mowing, with all the rain last weekend we have gotten so far behind. We are so used to Colton doing it, but with football, he isn't home as much.

I had a duck loose again yesterday. I go out the front door and the quacking seems louder than usual. There is Norman wandering around the yard with his momma, daddy and the 2 geese screaming at him from the pen. I can't catch him, so he spent the whole day mad because he couldn't get back in the pen.

I don't even know how he gets out and he is the only one who does it. Then he has the nerve to yell at me because I don't open it to let him back in. (mind you the others would bolt out). We do let them free range when we are home some, but I always make sure the boys are there to put them back in.

Thunder is adjusting so well to our hectic life! Did I tell you guys he can fetch his own leash? Friday, one of the girls in the office came back and asked me if Thunder was still at our house. Apparently his former owner called the vet/animal shelter upset because he thought he saw him running loose around the liquor store (on the other side of town) late the night before. Now, this is the same man who left the dog at the busiest intersection in town not caring what happened to him or if he got hit. The nerve he had to call and complain!
rant.gif
I told her to tell him that Thunder had a rough night with the pedipaws, so he went to town for a drink, but he was back by curfew!

Anyway, he now officially sleeps on the floor by my bed with a nice soft pallet to lay on. He snores, but so does hubby!

OMGosh Michelle-you had a very busy weekend... Thats great to finally be able to say you finished a project -no matter how big or small-congrats!! and the painting of the nails with destiny would be my DD's dream-shes always asking to do that with me ..Her colors though are not what you would call professional looking?? purple-flourescent green---etc...

charmedone-we onyl name the chickens we are keeping for pets-so needless to say we have 25? with names?? the girls name them...Had a huge scare tonight-got home at dusk and started to lock all the babies up-when my oldest DD asked where's "Pastor mike" ? its a girl though ( Silver Laced Polish) SQ even- was missing. This is a girl that if I was going to show-she would be the one-That was my DH's favorite girl. The girls were upset we looked until it was too dark-got the girls to bed and got out flashlights-Me and DH walked down to the woods-where their favorite hangout/hiding spots are. After a few minutes I spotted her huge crest/top notch-Thought she was laying on her side and I screamed with instant tears-I went diving into the bushes and slowly grabbed her-expecting a stiff or limp dead bird on my hands. When I picked her up she was warm!!! I held her to my chest and stuffed my nose in her neck and hugged her-DH gave me a hug and said how happy he was for us and her. I brought her into the barn and put her down and she just stood there?? So I looked her all over and she was fine-not a scratch I think-something must have spooked her because she really never lets us hold her to much. She just let me cuddle her to death and I put her in a cage with food and water and she ate and drank..phew... what a scare!! I love them so much but they have alot of freedom during the day where something could nab them..But I cant see caging them during the day when I have 6 acres to roam on-they have a very safe fullproof house at night-ahhh chickens!! Yeungling time LOL....

Hi everyone!

It sounds like you all got some things accomplished this past weekend and had a little excitement too! NY I can somehow picture you diving into the bushes and scaring the feathers right off of that poor bird!

I hope your new Internet works good for you. I would love to "see" more of you. We have alltel wireless and love it! It goes everywhere with us. Well when DH lets me bring BYC that is!

Michelle
I am so glad you have Thunder. He sounds like such a smart dog. I am sure he knows how lucky he is to be part of your family too!

We have a big dog named Bruce. He has adopted the oilfield guys in our area. There is always a rig drilling somewhere out here and their shop is less than a mile away. Well Bruce decided he works for them. They have really taken to him and watch out for him. He comes home on Sundays as they don't work then and some evenings. If he hears hubby out with the tractor or the water truck he will come running from somewhere. We are hoping when it cools down he will come home more. For now though we don't see him to much but stop by the shop and pick him up once in a while and drop off a bag of food once a month. In turn the guys tease us that he is earning a pay check!

They let him ride in their pickups or on the flatbed when it is really hot because runs so hard and they are afraid he may get sick. I was a little hurt at first, I mean, come on! I am home all day, and you have to leave me! Apparently I am just to darn boring!

Well this morning I was sitting in town at the hair dressers when the foreman calls to tell me that Bruce tangled with a porcupine and lost! I proceed to tell him that I look like an alien at the moment as I am in his sister-in-laws chair with tin foil chunks in my hair, wearing a cape sitting under the dryer! Now I can only imagine the look on his face and then he says, well I will bring him to town and drop him at the vet for you! ( Please do not come out here looking like that! :ep) So $100 later and a nice drug induced nap at the vet Bruce feels better and decided to grace us with his company all evening! As soon as 6 am rolls around he will be whining to get out and go back to work!

When I got home before I could pick Bruce up I called to thank him for running him all the way to town. He said well that's no problem but I will need him back here when he gets out because he is still on the clock! Well geez I said what do you have to do to get a day off around there!

Good Morning! I am here!

After the mountain dew incident yesterday morning, my optimism wasn't enough to make the day go better. The alternator went out on my van on the way home.

Hubby and son were mowing and couldn't hear their phones, so I had to call a friend. You know you have a great friend when you ask "can you come get me?" and they say yes before they even ask where you are! She even called this morning to see if I had it fixed or she needed to come get me.

NY--So glad you found your baby safe and sound! I can totally picture you doing that. We did about the same thing with Norman, the duck when he went missing another time. We have a deep ditch that runs along our property right by the pen and I just knew he had fallen in there! So, Colton and Jimmie got in there, waded around in the water, in the dark calling for him forever while Destiny and I walked the banks. We finally gave up and went in for supper and right before bed, I told Destiny we needed to check one more time. We went out and there he was just standing by the pen talking to the others! It appears he was asking if he could get back in and they were squawking at him for being out!

We have several of our chickens named too. Especially if they have personality and we can tell them apart. Now, some of them, like our 3 barred rock hens, they are all named Martha! My favorite of the whole flock though is our big RIR rooster! He was out of our original bunch and even as a baby he would sit on the feeders or waterers like he was really someone and I decided then to put him in his place. First I named him Fluffy. (how can you be tough with a name like that?)
gig.gif
and then held him as much as we could. To this day, I can pick him out with no problem, he is gentle as can be and will be turning a year old later this week! Gosh, it is hard to believe we have had our chickens a year now!

As far as the fingernail thing, Destiny's tastes are a little wilder than mine sometimes, but she usually lets me use the milder colors. Sometimes I do the funky thing, but try to keep it toned down for work!

Chickenchick--Bruce sounds like a wonderful dog! I hope he heals fast so he can get back to work! We had a little Pomeranian named Lucky when the kids were younger and he used to "go to work" with our neighbor who ran a backhoe. He would get ready to leave and Lucky would jump right in the cab with him and they would travel the countryside together. When they were done, he would come right back home!

Good morning! How is everyone today? Chickenchick, how is Bruce feeling this AM? Did he go back to work today or is he on workmans comp?
NY..So glad to hear your baby is safe! I free range my chickens too and every day when I come home I look around for chickens or feathers. You just never know what is going to happen during the day. But they sure are happy roaming around.
Michelle, you keep thinking positively. You could have been far away when your altenator went out, or your phone could have been dead, it could have been dark...any number of things. When something happens to me like that, I always look at how lucky I was. I had a blow out one time not far from my house. The tire made a big noise and rubber went flying. I was off the main hiway where I was just going 70 mph. I was close to home and when I got out to look, the tire was still inflated! I drove the rest of the way home with no problem! How lucky was that! It could have been alot worse. And if I had been on the hwy there is no telling what would have happened.
Have any of you ever read "The Secret"?

I surprised myself on how calm I was. I knew it was going to go, so it wasn't too shocking. I was on the highway and made it to turn off on the old highway that goes into our town, pulled into Hubby's buddy's driveway and it died. Unfortunately, I met Cliff just a few minutes earlier headed to town! What scared me most was that it might just quit on the highway and I would have no where to go. Being married to a mechanic, I have had it pounded into my head so many times what to look for, I can almost usually diagnose my own problems! Speaking of that, anyone ever do any of their kid's homework? Colton had some safety and other tests he needed to take online for vo-tech. It is mostly common sense and basic car problems and ran short of time to take them all, so I helped him Sunday night get most of it done. Yesterday I went and passed the test "violence in the workplace" and passed the final exam (didn't read all the stuff first) with only missing 3 questions! I was so darn proud of myself. While they were working on my van last night I was impressing the boys with how to properly hook up battery cables, where to put the jack under the car and many statistics that I learned that day! I then made supper and curled up in bed with Thunder to watch a little tv. He was feeling kinda abandoned yesterday. We got home late and the boys hadn't taken him out. I swear he had his legs crossed, holding it in when I walked through the door.

Read? I don't really allow myself time to read. What is it about? Destiny gave me The Time Traveler's Wife to read last night so I am going to make every effort to eventually get it read. I started a few pages, but gave it up for Thunder time!

The Secret is kind of a self help book about positive thinking. Some people really believe in it and others scoff at it.

It's a personal choice really. It is just about positive thinking. I enjoyed reading it.

When I was younger, I had to learn to work on my car. I am proud of you and all you have learned! You sound like you have alot of common sense. That will take you far, Michelle!!!!

My step dad was a mechanic and then I married one, so I have paid a little attention. When hubby raced a stock car in our younger days, my job was to change the oil and check tire pressure. It surprised a lot of people, but it was a way for me to be involved. I wanted to be out in the garage with the guys, not doing girly things!

For years, I was not a very positive person. I worked in a job that I thought I loved but hated it so much at the same time. When I finally left there after 18 years and started at the station I found I was a totally different person and started kinda liking myself! I do still get aggravated at times, but not like I used to. I have my wonderful family, great friends, my animals and a good job. I remember that a whole lot more now than I did before.

You guys raced?! We did too! We started with a street stock and then went to modifieds. I used to set the lash on the motor. Only did that once but did a good job. It didn't blow up anyway! Where did you race? We mostly raced in Sedalia, Topeka, Joplin and a few small tracks around the area. Did that for over 10 years. I kinda miss it but not. It sure takes up alot of time and $$$. I use to take a grill and cook for everyone every Fri nite. That got real expensive too. What kinda car did you race?

We just raced a stock car at a dirt track at Jamesport on Saturday nights. Number 63, I think the last paint job I talked him into was pink and purple! He started the summer I was pregnant with Colton and did that for a few years, before it just got too expensive to keep up with the big boys. He was then pit crew for a friend that raced at I-70 for a few years. He still has some friends who race, but long ago decided he was too old to do it anymore. Now, I guess we are on our way to build a demo car for at least Colton, if not for Hubby too! I remember championship night 1992. Colton was due Sept. 8. Champ night was Sept. 5. It got rained out and moved to the 12th. I had Colton on the 8th and was at the track with my pillow that Saturday night. I was not going to miss a thing! My mom babysitted and I was absolutely miserable and tired, but I was going to see the whole season through! We had stock, modified and IMCA races at the time and in the womb that baby would have an absolute fit when the IMCAs came on the track, especially for the feature. There were nights I would cry because he would kick so much. For many, many years (outgrowing it a bit now) that kid doesn't like anything loud! Even music, he would have a fit if you turned it up too loud. I have since apologized many times over to him and he doesn't blame me!
