Okay guys, I am going to tell you something and it is your job to tell me I am over reacting or whatever. I want your honest opinion on this!
I am not much of a softball fan at all. It isn't the girls' fault, I just get tired of hearing about it from our sports director. So some of that may influence my feelings about this whole situation. That being said, we have an excellent team this year. We have a pitcher who blew everyone away as a freshman, but the last 3 years we have lost at districts. This year she is a senior and really kicking some butt! Our team is in the final four, one game away from the state championship this weekend. First game is Friday at 11am. They freaking canceled school here because of it!! I was like you've got to be kidding? Nope. Now mind you, we used to get this Friday off because of parent/teacher conferences, but the football coach had a fit a few years ago because he didn't like the boys to have the day off of a district game, so they put the day back on the calendar. So, I am at lunch yesterday, still ranting about it when hubby tells me he has heard that the football boys have to go to the game. I really thought he was kidding! The game is an hour and a half away, starts 8 hours before the football game! (they just so happen to be playing both games in the same town). Sure enough, Colton says they have to be on the bus at 9am, game starts at 11 (I have to send $7 for admission), the quarterback club is paying for the boys to have pizza for lunch and then they are taking them to a movie?! (which I again have to send money for). The football game kicks off at 7. Am I out of line for thinking this is ridiculous?? I understand the girls have every right to be supported and I understand some people want to go to the game, but shouldn't it be up to the parents if they want their child to miss school that day and should it be mandatory that they parade all those football boys all day long? Besides the fact there are 60 boys on the team! Are they nuts?? I was mad enough a few weeks ago when they made the vo-tech people come back early for school to attend a softball pep rally. They missed part of class and were expected to either go into the school for the rally or sit on the bus until school was dismissed for the day. Here's where I mention that when there is a football pep rally, they don't bring them back early, so the football boys themselves don't get to attend! (there are no softball players in vo-tech)! And that particular day the game was moved to the next day early that morning, so there wasn't even a game that afternoon! Also on Monday and Fridays when the football bus leaves before the vo-tech bus gets back, the players have to miss the whole day because they won't let them drive down and they won't bring them back early. (Colton has had to miss 10 days since school started because of this!)
Sorry for ranting so long, but everyone else has heard about it, so I wanted you guys to tell me what you think. If I am out of line, say so.
