Oh my! Thanks for the information. Now I have some ammo to back up my plea for goats! Kennys X wife was allowed to have one so its only fair right?! Besides I am the one who will take care of it! The only worry I have is where to keep it in the winter. Do you heat a house for them? Also the climbing on everything is Kennys hang up, which I totally understand. That means they have to be penned up, even out here, right?

All my girls had last winter was their 3 sided manger (hubby laughs when I call it that) filled with straw for a bed and they did just fine. (and you remember how cold it was!) As long as they have shelter, they don't like to be wet! Put some stuff for them to climb on in their pen (stumps, etc) but make sure you do not position it so they can use it to jump out! We just have cattle panels up for them and they push on it, but it keeps them in just fine. The girls are usually good when they are out of the fence except when they get bored, then they start climbing, but they have loved the riding lawn mower since they were little and still like to get on it. Once in a while they climb on a vehicle, but they are trained to some extent to know they will get put in "time out" for doing that! They are smart animals and can be trained if you work with them like you do with your dogs. You do have a garden to protect and they will eat any leaf off a tree they can get a hold of, but they can be tied up too when you want to let them out.

I had no idea they could actually be trained like that! Also I figured they would need an actual house/barn. We have a barn but it is nothing more than a 4 sided shelter really. It is really old and missing pieces of roof and the wind blows through it pretty good. It has a dirt floor. I wonder if that would work? Hmm.... I could cut a "back" door and fashion a pen between the "barn" and the shop. Ooo

I am getting excited now!! How expensive are pygmy goats and how expensive are they to feed. These are just questions I KNOW Kenny will ask

I think you could fix that building right up! I got Jasper for $25 but I saw some females on Craigslist for $50. If you get a bottle baby the milk replacer is a little pricey at $22.99, but Jasper is just starting his second bucket. I get the grain for, I think, $6.75 for a 50# bag and it takes them a while to go through it. I buy my hay from Colten. Just the small square bales and I give them a flake a night or so.

I know you have seen pics of the goat set up before, but gives me an opportunity to show them off again. It is the yellow building. I thought I had a better pic than that, but didn't find one right off hand.

You get as cold as we do don't you? The important thing is keeping them out of the rain/snow and the wind, right?

You can do it! At least you will know more when you start than I did!! Yes, it got really really cold for a long period of time last winter and we had tons of snow. I just kept tossing them straw to snuggle in and apologized that Thunder got to sit in the house in front of the heater! I also have to add, and I truly believe this, that you will need two. They need to keep each other company and do goat things together. Otherwise you will be their herd mate and you probably don't want that!

I have a cute story about Bailey. She is such a diva and so boy crazy! Yesterday I was sitting in the yard when Colton left for bowling. Bailey went to the edge of the pen, put her feet up on the stump and bawled her fool head off while watching him drive down the road! You would have thought she lost her very best friend in the world! I watched when we drove away a few minutes later. Nothing.
