Ever feel lonely when you dont have any PM's waiting for you?

I never got my fall decorations put up, so I'm skipping straight to Christmas.

Well, I did get two beanie baby turkeys put out for fall. That was it, though. I brought up one other Thanksgiving item today. I'm putting those in the dining room. ROFL.

I also wanted to drag up my gift box & assess what I have. Sure enough, I have a couple more items than I remembered. That is a GOOD thing this year. I've spent more at the sales than I really needed to, but it will save me loads of money in the spring. I got garden tools fro prices like $3 for a good pitchfork, $2 for a garden rake, etc. I can't pass those up when those are on my NEED list here.

I just bought this house a year ago & needed pretty much everything as far as yard / tool stuff & a lot of furniture. Long story best not dealt with in a public forum...so, it's been an expensive year!

Tanya, it sounds like you got some good things today, too.

IN fact, it sounds like we all pretty much like bargains.

Off to find chapstick. My lips hurt from the early morning wind today...

I'm seeing more and more young folks in thrift shops. I'm not sure if it's the economy but it seems to be more acceptable among them. I'm even seeing an attitude shift with my students. (I try to bring in the topic of used goods in a lesson on rising consumerism. Sometimes all it takes is them realizing that other people don't consider it strange to buy used things...)

Yesterday, there were lots of teens at the thrift stores shopping without parents along. They seem to have been there shopping for $2 clothes instead of at the mall.

There were also college aged kids clearly buying things for their apartments. You should have HEARD the discussion about the merits of various 50 cent water glasses. They ended up liking one set but decided it was too much money and headed off to see what another store had. I wanted to tell them to just spend the $2. You aren't going to find them for less and will waste gas money driving around. You are just drinking water, after all, ROFL. Or, I could have told them to just save their leftover jars from spaghetti sauce if money was that tight.

Oh, and there is a NEGATIVE side to having all those secondhand outlets around. It's easy to go to them too much.

There are something like six or eight Goodwill stores here, alone. Not to mention the Council for the Blind, Disabled American Vets, Salvation Army, and scads of independents and other organizations I'm forgetting about. If I actually looked for them I dunno how many I'd find. I know where about a dozen are that I've seen just while on my way to other places. I have favorites.

One store does 50% off every Saturday. They mark their stuff HIGH. So, you only shop their on Saturday. One store has a bunch of fools doing their pricing. So, stuff like blankets may be marked $25. Yes, for a used quilt that is not handmade. However, they must sell...or perhaps they give some people who qualify "discounts" or "allowances" for monthly spending and that is how those things move. However, this store has good "junk bags." They take lots of small stuff, bag it up in one or two gallon bags and sell it for $3-4 a bag. I've gotten some great stuff in those bags, including SILVER (yes, real silver) Christmas ornaments. Odds and ends of dishes are ultra cheap there, too. I brought home some antique enamelware from them yesterday. Then there is a Goodwill that I mostly stop at because it is on the same route as for three others. My finds there are much more scattered. One shop I go to has daily discounts. One day it'll be 30% off all of X product. Another it'll be 50% off everything (except clothes with the most current tag color). Another day it might be 70% off all clothes with X color tag. I used to live a block from that store.

My favorite shop now is literally around the corner from my house. No fancy discounts to keep up with. They price stuff at a reasonable price, mostly. Sometimes things slip through at strange prices. They get a great assortment of stuff and are pretty big. I find a lot of good things in there. I've bought everything from pet carriers, to shop tools, to clothes, to movies in there.

ROFL It probably sounds like I shop all the time. I really don't. I do stop at the one thrift store a couple of times a week. The one that does Saturday discounts is convenient. I stop there once or twice a month on Saturday. The rest are occasional -- when I'm in the neighborhood anyway. Or, I might plan a day like yesterday every few months. I go to the Swap Meet (where folks take their crap to sell & pay $8 to enter the gates -- $1 if you aren't selling) every now and then but don't always buy much other than veggies.

I am so jealous! There is nothing like that around me for miles like 100's of miles-when we would go to Fl to visit inlaws we went to all of them and had to buy extra bags to bring everything home-I would but alot of stuff and sell it on ebay for extra $ Like little tykes toys I remeber I spent 11$ on the toys and sold them for 75 plus shipping great times!!

Sounds like you all were as excited as I was!! He completely froze! Serious. Kenny went over to the shop and pulled it outside, you can't see that side from the house. Raymond and I were supposed to be going over there "to help him with a deer"
wink.png
We came around the corner, he saw it and just froze, then looked at me, I said Happy Birthday!! He started to giggle and point, but still couldn't move
lol.png
"is that really mine?" Yes it is, we are very proud of you. "serious?" I think he said serious and no way a hundred times!! I took some pics and Kenny took a video, I will try to get them loaded. He wanted to go to a friends house to show him, so we did then we meet Grandma and Grandpa for lunch. He texted friends pictures of it and most didn't believe him

We just got home about a half hour ago and he went to take a nap. The excitement wore him out, just like when they are 5

okay, i know the chances of this being funny to y'all, but here goes.

Mom is standing in the kitchen, making coffee for the morning, I walk by and turn the light off and then realize she is there and turn it back on real quick and she looks at me and says.... Lord I thought I passed out.

I can hardly type from still cracking up.

SHE IS KILLING ME..

comes in about 15 minutes ago and says I am going to bed. Just a second ago I see her sitting on the coach and I said -- I thought you were going to bed. She looks at me so innocently and says ... I am I just don't know when yet....

Y'all I know this isn't as funny as I am experiencing it. I hope you get a giggle out of it.
