The guineas are with the chickens? I thought they had their own place?

Many people raise their ducks with their chickens. When we hatched Nester, he was an only "water fowl" of that age at the time. Of course he was a goose, but not much difference. We had baby chicks around the same age (much smaller though) and he grew up with them for quite a while. When we moved him to the waterfowl pen we still used to take him out to visit them.

So you are saying I could put the duck with the chickens right now and give him a pool in the Spring? The stupid Guineas would not go in their house but I couldn't keep them out of the chicken coop, so they won! The all get along just fine, the cat is the only one not happy with the arrangement. She peed on Kennys side of the bed one to many times!!

Yes, the duck can live with the chickens, it will make a mess with the water, but it will work. Can you put the extra chickens in the guinea pen?

I wish! It was our ice house and Kenny put it away and convereted it back. He had a change of heart and is hoping he can take F and Raymond ice fishing this winter. At the time I thought that was a fine idea because the Guineas werent interested in it anyway.

Yes. The dog is still around. He is a neutered male black lab that showed up Sat. We posted a pic at Caseys and I posted him in the lost and found on craigslist. The dog and I have a love/hate relationship going on. He barks at night so then Eddie hears this and barks. We havent' gotten a full nights sleep since he showed up! He looks well fed and is an older dog. He has to belong to somebody.

Sounds like someone else I know...Like I said, I hope he brings you as much joy as our rescue has brought us!!

Did you hear about our incident over the weekend?

Welllll then I don't know what to tell you if you don't have room. The duck will be fine and not take up much space. It is just the mess with the water to worry about. No way to fit in the extras?? Barn, anything?

OK I think I have made up my mind, maybe

I will take 3 chickens and squeeze them in the coop, unsure about the duck, maybe 2 hens and a duck. Thats probably what I will do. As soon as Kenny returns from town we will go down there (if shes home) and I will take pics and let you know. Thanks for oyur help.

I would think the building would be fine. Give them plenty of hay and they should keep each other warm enough. We don't heat any of our buildings and ours do fine.

My coop isn't heated either. I have a heat lamp that I turn on when it gets below freezing. Tanya, you know if you go see them and she gives you a sad story, you will have 12 chickens, a rooster and a duck to bring home...............

Agreed!!

My neigbor has 12 chickens and a rooster, AND a duck. She called last night and said her coop is not weather proof and she really wants me to take them ALL. Right now I have my 19 chickens, 3 Guineas and a cat living in there

It has been over a week since anyone has come out of there. I can't add more than 3 at the very most and I wonder about them getting picked on being the newbies and the others having "coop fever" already. Any opinions? Oh and can you have just 1 duck and what would I do with it right now?

I have a good idea--off the roosters... take on the new hens if they are under a year old ( since yours aren't laying much these days)and the duck should do fine I had my lonely duck for a year with all my chickens-did great:) TellKenny you dont know how you missed undercounting all those chickens but they must have been there from the beginning! haha if you add them add them all at once-not a few at atime as this will keep upsetting the order of things. problem is do know the conditions in which her chickens were kept? healthy and all? Id be worried about getting your chickens sick:-(
