Cockers are the worst about ear infections b/c of their floppy hairy ears...ugh. If it gets really bad sometimes we even do ear canal ablations so they can't get infected any more. Try giving him some Benadryl...it might calm him enough for you to get his feet done. Otherwise ask your vet for some acepromazine...it's wonderful stuff!
Michelle - I PM'ed Des...sounds like a tooth abscess to me.
What does the ablation do to cause it not to get infections anymore-IM not kidding when i say I will do anything to get it taken care of-His poor little ears smell all the time unless Im in there cleaning 3x a week also I shave all his hair around ears to stop the growth! the benedryl? Give me the low down -he's 32 lbs-how much do I give him?? how long after I give it to him can I try-when I see him drunk LOL
THANK YOU!!!
The ablation basically closes the ear canal so that the infection can't get in. It also renders them deaf, but most of the ones that are that bad are already deaf from the infections anyways. Give him 1.5 of the adult 25 mg tablets. Wait about an hour...some dogs get pretty drowsy and others act like nothing happened, so you'll just have to see! The acepromazine would knock his butt out for sure.
