Ever feel lonely when you dont have any PM's waiting for you?

He is so stinkin' cute and noisy! We are wondering if he may be blind, but he seems to be getting around fine. He will have to be raised alone because this is the first week our feed store is not carrying babies anymore!

But, just a quick question. Is it possible to raise him with the 3 baby chicks? I know he can't have the medicated, but can we switch them to game bird food? I do realize it wouldn't be ideal but I hate for him to be lonely. Otherwise, we will just spoil him rotten by himself.

aww blind? what's makes you say that???

You can raise him with chicks thats how I did his father:) but be preparred for those chicks to get wet and the bedding to alot of cleaning up:) but he needs a buddy for sure

What do I feed the 4 of them? The medicated chick food or the duck food? I know it will be a mess, but I think he needs someone to follow around and they are still the right size for it.

He doesn't seem to be able to see anything. If you stick your hand in there, he doesn't realize it until he is touched and he seems to "feel" around for his food and water. He gets along fine, but I think Des is right when she wondered about it yesterday. He had been trying to hatch since Sunday afternoon, all day Monday and finally Tuesday after we got home I wrapped him in a wet paper towel and got him completely broke out. Took forever for him to dry and walk (waddle) correctly and we didn't take him out of the bator until last night when we got home. He is a tough little dude! It looks like the place on his bill he used to get out is on the side instead of the tip. That may have been why he was having so much trouble. The bator is in my room and he kept me awake 3 nights with his peeping before I finally helped him. It was to the point that we would have lost him if we left him, so I rescued him.

He is adorable and so loving! He went right after the food and water when we put him in the tote. He stays close to it I think so he can locate it. I think he will do just fine if he has other buddies that will help him get around. Destiny has already said he will be a house duck, but we will see how he does!

I used med crumbles for Chukcie and never had any issues there was a huge debate on here because I asked and I just said screw..and fed himt he med crumbles --he WILL start to get angel wing though you'l see that..When he does start to feed him food lower in protein and greens like shredded broccoli stems:)

Thanks Nat! I only asked you all so I wouldn't get a lecture for anyone else! Like many things in life, I know it isn't ideal, but things happen!

So, it is better to feed him their food than to switch them to his? I will put them together tonight and be prepared for a big ole mess!

yes they will be fine--you know what?? let me see if I can find that thread about it from 3 yrs ago and youll see all the varied opinions...The medicated feed was Deadly-years ago when the coccidiostat in it was in a heavy dose. nowadays it's a VERY small percentage and wont harm the ducklings-but people still say NO! DONT EVEr feed them that -hogwash!

He will have friends tonight! I am going to check the feed store one more time to make sure they didn't get a shipment in today on my way home first.

Ahh the duckie is so cute. I am glad you two had a chance to talk out what is best for the little thing. He/she is going to have his/her first sleep over tonight. Ya. Definitely more pictures please.

Good night all -- i am heading home for the evening.

Hi ladies. Sorry I've been MIA. Had a good weekend visiting with friends and their 2 kiddos. Had a NASTY stomach flu on Monday, Wyatt had it Tuesday, DH had it Wed., everyone at Wyatt's daycare had it today.

HFLL - So, this lawn guy...was he cute? Married? Huh, huh, huh???

Family vacation is in Cedar Key...nice little fishing town, not commercialized at all. Beach, boat, fishing, drinking, living the life.

I would MUCH rather be there than in OH (ugh), but I'm trying to be nice.

Des - Who is Jeremy Maclin?

Ok, googled him, football player, got it.

Michelle - cute duckie. Mine all get raised on medicated chick starter.

I have found that I won't put them in a brooder with a solid bottom with chicks though...they'll spill all the water and the chicks get wet/cold and die. Do something with mesh/wire on the bottom.

Remember when the bator died a couple weeks ago and I lost all my eggs? Well, my OTHER bator died this week
barnie.gif
but I cought it faster and I think some (maybe most
fl.gif
) of the eggs are still going. I've been incubating for 2.5 years and this is the first time I've ever had trouble. When it rains it pours and all that.... My "broody bators" all got fired up this week though.

Kelly -- he was much older than me and married. but he did tell me my DH was dang fool.... :)

Oh and if I remember right I have been to Cedar Key before. It's been years. I love areas like that. Are you camping or staying in a hotel?
