My hardy Minnesota born preteens (3 weeks old). All eleven survived the weeweekends -20+ degree temps windchills -40s thanks to such great first time mommies and my tired DH! We purchased chicks in May and it has been the best thing my family has ever done! No need for psychiatry...buy a chicken! Giggle

Curious...white leghorn or brown? did you get her from a breeder or feedstore...pure or mixed....AMAZING that a Leghorn would sit if it is commercial stock. You would be lucky indeed.

my brother once had a light brown leghorn that was sitting on her eggs. When he found her she had over 25-30 eggs she had been laying and sitting on, obviously they were not fertilized. he didn't have a rooster. They finally got her three to sit on that were fertile and she made a great mom. oh she was feedstore stock if i remember correctly.
