Ever train a chicken?

We have several "trained" chickens. Jimmy, our red pyle OEGB roo, can crow on command or jump up to snatch food out of our fingers. Actually several of our birds will jump for food!

He also knows his name, because sometimes he'll be at the neighbors, I'll say "Jimmy get over here" and he'll come.

Jimmy comes in the house when we have the door open. Our other OEGB roo Trevor will fly up on our shoulders or arm and sit there like a parrot.

This is such a fun website! I'm really glad I found it. Now, after reading about all your chickens, I wish I could have my own flock. But unfortunately I can't for many reasons. I'll just have to keep reading the posts and live vicariously through everyone else's adventures.

when I was young I saw a trained chicken. they had a chicken in a box with a child size piano and when you put money in slot corn came down on key board and she plucked and played. this was very amazing to me as a child.

Doodle roo has one trick, he loves to show off. He will fly to my shoulder or arm, or scramble there if you pick him up. He then perches there proudly, and crows! He will stay there as long as we want him to, but then he likes to play "elevator" you have to lower him by degrees to close to the ground, then he will hop off. for this trick, he always gets rewarded with the first bite of feed, or some other treat.

Checker roo will come when called, you have to tap the ground and coax him, and he will sidle over (going sideways) til he gets close enough to be picked up. But he always comes, that is, he does when he is in his pen in the barn and he knows his reward will be he gets to go outside.

Most of our chickens know that if they peck on a window or door of the house, someone will come out and feed them treats.
