Every Egg Color in the Chickens world!

Wow your backyard is way bigger than mine. YOU need a rooster. Also my Polish lay pretty white eggs and they actually lay well. When I get my camera fixed I will get photos of what I do so you can see.

I do have a quite large backyard ! I am leaving for college in a few years and that my be an issue that comes into play but I am not sure because it is very easy to find a home for such rare birds. Thanks I can't wait to see photos as proof to my parents also

THATS GREAT !!! how many breeds do you have? I bet you can't wait for all those babies to lay their eggs.

Henry

Let's see, of those already laying, I have:

Buff Orps
Black Sex Links
Rhode Island Reds
Barred Rocks
Ameraucanas
Araucanas
Easter Eggers

Then the young include:

Black Copper Marans
Polish
Cochins
Houdans

and few I'm sure I've forgotten

Ruth I only aspire to have that many breeds I love your diverse flock and their beautiful life style ! I hope my hens have as happy a free ranging life as yours they free range every day and then go in at night. I am trying to raise my chicks with a good life but its a bit cold outside to raise them in a tractor now but they get to go out ocassionaly and love grazing. I really can't wait till my marans are older !

Thanks everyone for your helpful comments and opinions and thoughts keep em coming !

Has anyone bought eggs, chicks, or birds from Gabbard hatchery? Their website is awsome and I love seeing the pictures of eggs.

We want Silkies in the spring, but I am not sure who is the best to buy from. That farm we bought the chickens from has some, but they free range with turkeys and guineas and lamas and horses and donkeys and every other kind of animal you can imagine. Since we got the chickens, they have fattened up and feathered out so I am not sure about getting silkies from them.

If you just want silkies because they are pretty cool looking get them from the farm but if you want them for breeding or showing incubate eggs or buy them from a show.

See the thing is cost. We want them to breed and because we want feather chickens, but we don't have alot of money, so it is all about keeping my eyes and ears open. Feather Chicken = what another members small child calls silkies.
