Every day since we got our 10 chicks I have just fallen in love with them. Now that they are in their coop and run, AND they get to free range in the garden when I'm out there working in it, they are showing such distinct personalities!
One of our Turkens is most definitely "alpha male" ~ if that's a term that can be applied to 5 week old cockerels!
He just cracks me up! This morning I went out to open the coop door and feed/water them, then just sat on the ground watching them play, eat and forage. One of our (breed yet to be determined) black and white chicks found a worm!! Our Turken "Roo" dodged over, grabbed the worm out of her mouth, then began the most HILARIOUS game of chick football I have ever seen! Here I am, in my back yard, all alone at 7:30 am laughing my head off!
All the while our gorgeous gleeming white Leghorn pullet just minds her own business and gracefully forages and eats grass in the run. Then she comes over to say hello to me. She is the only chick in the bunch so far that will actively seek me out just to come over and look at me, peck my toes, and listen to me praise her loveliness!!
I don't know why I never owned chickens before! They are just so much fun! Hope you all don't mind me sharing a bit of silliness with you!
