Everyone’s favorite! What gender is this EE???

6 weeks old, Wheaten Ameraucana x Gold sexlink cross

I was able to pick out 8 obvious cockerels at 4 weeks old of the 17 chicks I hatched. They are already gone. This guy/gal has me guessing so I kept this one a little longer.

Late blooming cockerel or early maturing pullet?

All the chicks were a little flustered because they got in with the bigs briefly so it’s comb is pinker than normal resting color. Maybe that’s good for determining gender?

I’m leaning towards cockerel but need to be sure before I sell some of these chicks.

Unfortunately I won’t have them that long. I need to move all but 2 out Friday. I was just looking for people’s best guess. I’ll probaby discount this one to someone who likes a gamble.

My guess is that she's a pullet. Although her comb is a little flushed and a bit redder than the others, it's nowhere near the bright red of a cockerel, and her comb and wattles are still small. Still, if you can only keep two and need to be 100% certain, she isn't one I'd choose to keep.

That's probably your best bet. It could easily go either way with the chick in the pictures. Some pullets do get a touch of pink in their combs very early.

Thanks everyone! That’s exactly what I needed. It’s nice to hear it’s a possible pullet, I will rehome “her” with the others. She doesn’t act like the cockerels I rehomed. Let’s hope she is just a early maturing pullet or just blushes easily. I’ll probably sell her with a discount instead of giving away like I did the cockerels.

Or heck! Maybe I should submit to chicken math and keep it just to see what this little one decides to be.

I just wanted to update this. It was a pullet! And I kept her until POL and sold her and another EE I held on to. Worked out good!
