It has been my experience with pigeons that first time breeders will sometimes abandon perfectly healthy squabs. That being said if you have a pair of birds that have raised young successfully and for some reason abandon their squabs or stop feeding one you will be far better off to let nature take its course. Even if you do manage to hand rear the bird it will die young and never really thrive. Also even good foster parents will know their is something not right with that squab and will abandon it. After making this statement I am sure their will be a chorus of people that will give examples to the contrary..Lotto day 21
Parents sat eggs but abandoned them at birth and literally walked all over them. One died within hours and I named this one Lotto because I figured his odds of survival were a million to one.....but thankfully he proved me wrong and will be 28 days tomorrow!
