The Chinese are so different from the other breeds. You can tell them by their call a mile away. My wife thinks they are pretty with the long slender necks.
I have a hard enough time keeping my Embdens, Pilgrims and Tufted Romans breeding 'true' and don't want to introduce another breed, though.
I also have a pair of embdens, a brown chinese female, Bruce and his brother. I can step outside and call for Bruce and if he is on the north 40 I can hear him calling back to me. I never thought about it until you said you can tell them by their call from a mile away and you are so right my embden's sound nothing like that. My husband and kids do not like the geese except for Bruce.
The one is my avatar is Olive and she loves to sit on my lap. I adore our geese. I understand why people are afraid of them. But at the same time, if you raise them from egg or gosling, they are just like little puppies which follow you around.
Welcome back GF. I used to raise the Chinese Geese, they are such wonderful companions, actually all geese are. With the Chinese Geese we never needed to mow lawns, weed the garden and it was amazing how much out door work we really had to do after the last goose died from old age. Take care!
