I candle everyday, lol. I vote go ahead.Should I candle a day early, or wait until tomorrow?
Little impatient if you can't tell.
Wait, is she a booted bantam? Or did her beard just get picked off? Iāve had several dāuccles, but Iāve never had a booted bantam.
I'll see, but I might wait until tomorrow night.I candle everyday, lol. I vote go ahead.
She has tiny wattles, which my Porcelain D'uccles hens have, so they must be restricted due to the beard gene, but they just don't show a beard. Only my Porcelain D'uccle rooster has a beard.Wait, is she a booted bantam? Or did her beard just get picked off? Iāve had several dāuccles, but Iāve never had a booted bantam.
I didnāt think of that. But couldnāt she have small wattles anyway? I wouldnāt expect the beard gene to not show up as a beard but still restrict the wattles. Beards are dominant- right? Though beards are a bit confusing, since pure bearded x unbearded crosses sometimes produced unbearded chicks, though that shouldnāt be the case if theyāre pure. She has tiny wattles, which my Porcelain D'uccles hens have, so they must be restricted due to the beard gene, but they just don't show a beard. Who knows what they do at Hoover's. Bought them as D'uccles, so they must have Booted Bantams, & D'uccles breeding in the same pen.I didnāt think of that. But couldnāt she have small wattles anyway? Booted bantams seem to have small wattles, though, even the roosters. My sebright hen does, too, and I doubt she carries the beard gene.View attachment 2577746
I donāt think the rose comb gene does the same, due to the many large-wattled wyandottes and Dominiques Iāve seen. Did you order them from the hatchery or buy them at a feed store? They could have been mislabeled or switched? Or maybe theyāre just hatchery quality dāuccles.Who knows what they do at Hoover's. I also know the Pea comb gene also restricts wattle growth, but not sure rose comb does the same, or not.
Yes, the Beard Gene is Dominant.
Okay, I'm not that into rose combs, & how they work.I donāt think the rose comb gene does the same, due to the many large-wattled wyandottes and Dominiques Iāve seen.
