This is horrible. My heart goes out to all of you and your animals. I wish I could donate supplies but I am so far away (literally east coast) so I'm not sure if I could even help. Fingers crossed that this horror show will end soon.

This is what the sky looks like over here. I'm more north in Oregon. We never get fires over here. Not bad ones. So many people missing or gone and so many animals too.. all over oregon. If any of you can help the is a face book page called the real cowboy 911 or cowboy 911- oregon.

I'm in Prineville, we're probably doing the best out of the whole state, fire-wise that is. My husband is a wildland firefighter with the forest service and is out there fighting the fires. Please heed all evacuation notices. It's hard to say which animals (domestic) will survive as their instincts are different from wild animals.....all we can do is hope for the best and take what animals we can with us during evacuation. When you return home be sure to set up mulitple areas with feed and water...domestic and wild animals will desperately need all the help they can get. Best of Luck, and stay safe AND PRAY FOR RAIN !!!!

Today the air is definitely worse- the wind is gone - but the Level 2 area is advancing this direction, still in the Level 1 for now. The main advantages we have at the moment are the calm wind and the river between us and the Riverside Fire (the megafire that's evacuated half our county) and 99W between us and the Chehelam Fire (Bald Creek). As the crow flies, we're square in the middle. If we do have to put a move-on I hope it's after dark where we can grab as many as possible from their roosts.

Do you have cat or dog crates or even boxes that you could put them in? I hope that you and your family and all of your birds can stay safe.

Just a thought, drill air holes (lots of them to also allow excess body heat to escape) in plastic totes, put hay or shavings in the bottom, and the animals inside, to take them with you. You can worry about food and water when you get to your destination. I've used plastic cups while travelling to stop and water my animals, and reassure them we will get there soon. It keeps them more calm also, being in a dark space during transport.
