I understand your frustration and the situation is helping me think through our decsion to keep a roo or not. We have a no roo unless it is okay with the neighbours bylaw....but how far does `neighbours`stretch with crowing? The thing that gets me is in our neighbourhood (we live in a rural area)...one of the familes has a very noisy parrot and there is a neighbour who keeps peacocks (sounds like old ladies yelling `help me`at sunrise). It kind of bothers me that roosters are such a big no no when there is nothing about these other birds....
....sorry kind of hijaking your post with a little vent of my own...but the long and the short is I am sorry you are having to go through this and I hope it all works out for you.

You're being kind... . if it was me he'll be expecting a recording of the rooster crow played back out of half a dozen speaker facing his section.

Never let your neighbour dictate what you can/ can not do in your home if it's legal....

Sounds like the neighbor is disturbing the peace more than a roo. Next time tell him if he can't be civil that you will call the cops for harassment.

Please don't let this jerk push you around. If your legal and you don't think the noise is excessive. Screw him. Your legal. Tell him if you end up having to get rid of the chickens, you will be heart brocken and will get another animal. Your thinking about one of those yappy little dogs.. Well actually two, one for the front yard and one for the back. So they can welcome him anytime.

You have a right to manage your land as you wish, and if the law gives you the right to own the roo, Nasty Neighbor can sod off.


ETA This is bullying, and a bully only gets worse if you cater to their demands. Next thing you know he'll bill you for leaf removal if you tree drops leaves in his yrad!

I cant wait for my roosters to start crowing. Of course I am on a 16 acre farm but i do have neighbors. Actually only one neighbor and she cant wait to get free eggs lol. I think this guy is one of those people that just cant stand to see someone happy. If you get rid of your roosters he will find something else to complain about. I say buy him a set of earplugs and keep all your chickens. You are legal.

My question is WHAT DID ANIMAL CONTROL SAY? I agree 100% that if you are legal and the crowing is occasional and during hours when "noise" is allowed (what if you were listening to loud music?) then they have no right to harass you.
Do the neighborhood survey like Mr Ryan suggested, play the good neighbor card (I give eggs to my neighbors who my chickens frequently visit on their foraging trips), and do what you can re: soundproofing. You will then have done all you can.
Difficult neighbors can be HORRIBLE. I have one who used to harass and bark at my dogs then call animal control for them barking at him! It can be VERY frustrating and I know what you mean about not being able to enjoy your yard. You will not enjoy it any more WITHOUT your chickens. You will just be sad that they are no longer there.

If it's legal, which in your case, it is, I'd keep the birds. How on earth could two banty roosters annoy anyone that much, I mean really!? It's asinine, but people do treat chickens differently than barking dogs, noisy engines of lawn equipment, etc. I personally would tell them that if they are that annoyed by a couple of teensy roosters, then perhaps they need to live in a covenanted neighborhood where all they can hear is mechanical noise like lawnmowers, weedwhackers, car engines, etc. But then, I don't know why anyone would ask a neighbor's permission to do anything that it was legal to do. (yeah, don't get on my case about it. Nope, I don't care that someone can hear my roosters crowing. I listen to their noise)
