Excellent bulk mealworm source...

Don't know if any of you feed mealworms as treats (my girl loooooooooove them!!!), but we've recently been ordering bulk mealworms from The Nature's Way company, with fantastic results. Their worms come in nice & plump with next to no dead bugs, and their pricing is really reasonable, especially for the quality & excellent customer service.

We tried several suppliers before finding one we liked. 2 thumbs up & a happy cluck for The Nature's Way!

What size do you order? Should I get small, med., or large?

Mediums are an excellent all-purpose size for most chickens. My 13-week-old girls all eat them w/no problems (silkies too), and know exactly what the mealworm box is when I shake it...talk about a stampede!!!

If you're feeding much smaller/younger birds, it probably wouldn't hurt to go with smalls just to be on the safe side, or get some of each size to figure out what works best for your situation.

How long do the worms live? I mean can I BUY BIG and they'll last a while or do they die if not fed etc.... ?

I think my girls would FLIP OUT if something like that came along.............

Keep them cool (like 45 degrees) & they stay good for an easy 6 weeks. We order 15,000 every 10 days or so for all of our lizards, sugar gliders, etc., so they're never really here long enough to go bad. Between 22 chickens & 6 Guineas, I could easily feed out 1500-2500+/- of those in a week, especially right now during the winter when they can't get other bugs. I try to mix things up & also give them crickets, small hissing cockroaches, and waxworms. So far it's a mixed opinion on tomato hornworms (some of my chickens will eat them, most won't), but mealworms have thus far been the hands-down favorite.

And I do mean FAVORITE. Two words for you: CHICKEN CRACK!!!!!!!!

I always order extra crickets on my orders for my Bearded Dragons. That way my girls can have their fair share of them.

All I do is walk out into my yard and shake the cup they come flying to me to gobble them up!

I'm probably going to order some, but the small "pack" - the one where they come in the plastic container - I dunno about trying to unwrap them from newspaper...

I guess I could just give the paper to the chickens to sort through!

I get mine from wormman I get the 5000 box and they do go crazy for them. It didn't take my chicks but twice to understand what the cup had in it!

my chickens are like that to but with my hand i fed them yogurt of my finger when they were like three days old and mabe once since then and they still peck my hands and hard.
