Excessive heat days in Arizona

Thanks all, so the Home Depot stand mister perched up high seems to be keeping the wooden coop cooler I think. I also freeze water in 2cup buckets and let it melt over the ground twice a day (drinking and getting their feet wet with ice water) seems much better. Just hoping my critter sitter won't mind the special handling when we're gone for a week. Thanks again, all

Lately it has been 118-120 here in QC and we have had 3 die. We have shallow pans with ice water, frozen EVERYTHING, they have a shady but airy coop, we have sprinklers going to keep the ground cool, ice in waters, etc. there was a hen who was panting to the point where she was gasping. When I picked her up she puked so I felt her crop and I think she has sour crop. She is in the house. We stood her in cold water and she's not panting. Ugh!!! This heat is TORTURE!!! Anything else we can do as far as heat goes?

Use a electrolyte solution.

Electrolytes work. Veterinary recommended.

So sorry you lost your kids. After I lost some of mine, I decided to open up their run as much as possible at let them find the place they feel the coolest. It was in my vegetable garden, in the middle of my strawberry plants! Unfortunately I lost my plants, but they seem more comfortable in the wet, loose soil. I also freeze 4 cups in a plastic container and place the ice block in the dirt where the strawberry plants used to be. They gather around it. Over these last two days, they seem more comfortable & they don't have their wings out. I continue to have the mister going but they prefer the ice block. we lost power, so no fan. The best to you and yours.

3 of my chickens in Tucson today. I had misters and ice blocks in their water, I'm just devastated. Any ideas besides excessive heat that they would've died? Was it the misters making them too wet? And what are the odds that 3 died at the same time? I'm completely heartbroken

I'm so sad to hear this! I'm sorry. I think feeding watermelon really has helped my flock. I also gave electrolyte in their water. I'm new to this so I can't really what is right or wrong.
