I have 3 button quail hatched 4 days ago there quite active and loud. But I can’t get them to eat and drink on there own I’m having to literally hand feed them of my actual hand they won’t eat or drink from pippete it’s take me 20mins- 30mins to feed and water them as they take a very long time to eat I keep going I’m hoping they’d figure it out by now but they don’t there suppose to eat and drink on there own after 24hrs or after there shown but no any help or advise needed

I find my chicks aren't too loud so long as they have constant access to food, water and somewhere nice and warm. I am assuming button quail chicks are similar to Coturnix chicks in this instance.

For feed, grind it up and pop it on the floor, they should find it quickly and eat it. How are you giving it to them? Is your brooder possibly too big that they're struggling to find it?

For water, I use vertical waterers which are very easy to activate for chicks to get the water, once shown they should be able to use it right away. What is your setup?

Hi yes there are some similarities with courtunix such as behaviours and some traits but button quails are half the size and are very fast they also have tiny bodies so require less food and water but take a long to time to swallow due to small size they can’t eat normal quail chick crumb I have tried them on two types they only like it mushed with water I will attempt to try tomorrow to give it grinded and see if I get results as for there set up there in a box in the brooder as there to small plus flighty for the brooder button quail aren’t very hardy creatures

Buttons can definitely be pretty hardy once acclimatised, though not to the lengths of Coturnix quail.

Try a coffee grinder or similar, Coturnix chicks are fine with a chick crumble but buttons will need it ground up further.

Put some feed, a handful, in to a zip lock bag.
Take a hammer to it. Hit it until it turns to almost powder. They will eat it. They know how to eat on their own. They don't eat but a nibble every now and then.

With my button babies I tap the food with my finger to simulate mum n they always copy n start pecking immediately, ull know if they're eating enough by if they're pooping. I use jar lids for food and water for the first week, water lid has pebbles put in it to prevent drowning. With the finger pecking they pick it up pretty quick tho I make sure to keep doing it at least every couple of hours the first few days xx
