Exhibition Ducks

Hi!! I’d like to start showing ducks, but I’m not entirely sure of where to start with getting them or getting into it. I’d like to show either Buff Orphington ducks or Welsh Harlequins. Anyone know of good breeders for show quality ducklings, some tips for raising them, and how to get started with getting into showing?

Congrats on deciding to show! It's really fun, but it does take a lot of work and serious breeding.

I bred show welsh harlequins for a number of years, though I don't any longer. Holderread sells ducklings from their top show quality breedings that would be a good place to start if you can't find a local breeder, though they aren't selling any more ducklings until next year.

To begin with, you're going to want to join the APA. You're also going to want to pick up an APA standard of perfection to study.

From there, you'll want to find some shows local to you and go check them out to get a feel for it. Poultry Show Central lists all the APA certified shows.
