Existing Emu owners, any transport advice?

Can anyone give me any advice on transpoting Emus? Should they have their legs bound, blindfolded???? I had a really bad experience yesterday and don't want to go through that again. I'm sure it's the original owners attitude that made things difficult, ( 3 jumped the fence and he got mad and shot them)but just wanted to know how people move these beautiful animals regularly.

We haven't moved ours in quite a while, but when we did it was in a horse trailer. The open sides and back of the trailer were covered with plywood so they couldn't stick their heads out, no binding or blindfolds were necessary. Lots of straw/shavings in the trailer for them. Ours only had to travel a short distance and made the trip with no problems.

What a shame that the former owner couldn't handle his birds. Are you getting emus from this person? Have they been handled at all? Mine were fairly easy to handle, even though they were already mature (about 2 years old) when I acquired them.

How horrible! I have seen them transported in horse trailers many times, no other methods needed, except what was stated above. Ours were babies when I got them so I've never had to transport them. My one did jump the fence once and waited for me to come get her. Luckily I had harness trained her when she was little.

we alos use a horse trailer - no issues with my emus but they are used to people... we were called by our local animal control last year to help catch & transport an emu that had been running loose for several months & had caused several car wrecks.... he was wild & terrified of people. Once we had him cornered & managed to get him on the trailer he still banged against the walls & was injuring himself so we put a sock over his head - he was perfectly calm until unloaded & the sock was removed. I would not bind legs... actually stay away from them as much as possible as emus can inflict damage with their legs. We "walk" ours whether blindfolded or not by using the wings as handholds & one person on each side of the body...
