I had two heat sources, one emitter and one red lamp. I was running 100w on the emitter, but I should have had 150w (100w is not enough in my exp). I had a 150 red explosion "proof" bulb. I set both on their own timers to alternate depending on temps.

Right now it's in the 50's and pouring rain. I went out to check on the little ones before I go to work and to bring them some wet mash. They weren't up yet.

Not seeing any chicks, I lifted the brooder plate and they gave me some sleepy eye-blinks.

I love my brooder plates. My babies would do the same!

I'm at work, but my son reports that the chicks are fine. The tarp sides are stapled to the brooder frame.

I've got both heat sources running now on my DH's super-heavy-duty extension cord.

He is very clear that I'm only borrowing it for this cold snap and can't continue to use it.
