Expecting chicks week of Oct 1?

Bad hatch on the Polish. :( But! They had two buff Brahma pullets needing homes, so they're coming here. Squee!
Brooder is set up, just fiddling with lamp placement for temp.

Good luck!
Mine are due next week, I ope your little ones arrive safe and can't wait to see pictures.

I've got 48 eggs in lockdown at the moment, due Thursday. Some were peeping quite loudly at me when I put them in lockdown a few hours ago, and two had quite noticably pipped. My mother and sister started d'aaw-ing when they saw the little beak moving in one of the pips...

Anyway, I don't think that's what you mean by 'expecting chicks', but I thought I'd put my bit in anyway.

I've got another 48 eggs due next Thursday (9 days away) and might purchase some other chicks around then, too. I've got my eye on some blue Australorp chicks...

I had a surprise this morning when I woke up to find 4 had already hatched! Yay! Very excited.

Although I'm beginning to wonder about this incubator, though. I've only used it twice, but both times the majority of the chicks have hatched on Day 20. Hmm.

Yay on your hatchlings! I'd guess you may have more hatched by now?

My peeps arrived this morning! All seem to be doing very well, eating, pooping, sleeping, peeping away happily. I have to admit that I am thrilled with the assortments I got from Meyer, at least so far.

In my seven rare assorted I've already ID'd 2 Anconas, 2 Buttercups and one Partridge Penedesenca - all breeds I've been wanting to try out and have had poor luck in finding available at the same time. I still have two little shoulder shrugs.

Am going to have lots of fun trying to guess those two. In the brown egg layer assortment, I have one Barred Rock, two "red chicks" I'm guessing are either RIR or NH, one Partridge Rock and one Buff Orp.

Will try to get pictures posted, but my internet is essentially dial-up, so pictures are tricky.

That is quite the normal.
I hatch out 9 months out of the year every week and I've learned. day 19 - 21 are great. day 22 is pushing your luck. anything hatched after that you probably will not get to keep or they have deformities in one way or another ( usually their feet )
20 day chicks usually grow off the fastest and are the most outgoing.

I received 8 chicks this morning, 5 penedesencas for me and 3 splash marans for my co-worker. One penedesenca DOA and one sluggish on arrival who died this evening. The remainder are actively preening, eating and drinking. Crossing my fingers that they all do OK!

Sorry to hear James, did they come from a hatchery? Hope the rest pull through :)
