How much would it cost to have at most 5 female and one male quail, its food/water plus ,cage/coop and other basic items(no sure what other basic thing i would need)need to keep then alive and happy?

I'm really not sure I built my quail pen and made there feed dish and watering system all out of upcycled pallets so my best guess is $100. but I wouldn't go by my guess sorry i know that probably won't help 😅

I mean, we use a big clear storage tub with bird netting on top for our grow-out pen, or if we need to separate our birds - we've spent stupid big bucks building a quail aviary, but you don't have to.

I saw someone on YouTube build a really good outdoor quail pen out of old wire closet shelves.

I think your major cost is feed and bedding if you don't have a wire floor, and trash if you don't have somewhere to throw away the used bedding or poop. I think there's some feed calculators in the sticky thread.

Depending on if you start with birds or with eggs, you might need to spend money on an incubator. But I found adult birds for $5 each.

Hello,

I started raising quail about 10 weeks ago, and I currently have 14 girls and 3 boys.

They are currently in a watermelon box (free from Costco) as I am finishing with building out their coop and run. If you’re only keeping 6 quail, I would probably go with getting a bunny cage for them which would be anywhere from $50-$100?

Food wise it depends on what you feed them. There’s Purina gamebird/turkey startena that goes for $20 for a 50# bag at TSC. My watermelon box with 5 girls and 1 boy I currently refill a liter jar of feed every 4-5 days.

As for cleanliness, I put a dust bath in there with topsoil, diatomaceous earth (you can also use wood ash) and throw some dried rosemary and oregano in there for them to bathe and Peck at.

I’ve also been feeding them cold watermelon since it’s been hot.

Hope this helps!

My goodness Flockincrazy that’s a lot of watermelons!!! How many do you have in your flock?

And are there any other treats you feed them? I throw in a small handful of dried mealworms as well. They make these very interesting noises that sounds like they’re vibrating every time they eat it!

What do you feed your flock? Do you mill their food yourself? I’m totally looking for recommendations for generating feed to save cost in the long term. I have 7 9ish week old pullets and 5 straight run chicks that are 4 weeks old, still don’t know the sec yet and just posted my first thread today on opinions!

Farm quails, sorry for invading your post!
