I have had a older Hovabator wafer thermostat/forced air incubator for the past ten+ years. I have hatched many of eggs with pretty good results with it. I have not hatched eggs in a year or so so I recently got a Brinsea mini advance to do small batches and got a 12 out of 12 first hatch of quail eggs. So far impressed. That said I am planning to upgrade my older hovabator and am looking at the 1588 or the Octo 20. I feel the 1588 will do all I expect of it but I am really pleased with the little Brinsea. Should I give the Octo 20 another look or just go for the 1588 and never look back? I seldom need the room of the 1588 for eggs but am using my old Hovabator as a temp brooder for the quail as I type. Decisions.......

Thanks ahead!

I have had both and they both do a great job. Tough decision but price wise the Hovabator wins hands down. The new 1588's are digital display also which I really like.

That being said Brinsea is my favorite

I currently have the Brinsea cabinet and that thing can hatch a wooden egg! Ok- well not really but it's pretty awesome lol.

If price is not a factor than go Brinsea but for the money Hovabator 1588 can't be beat (I have 3 of them and love em).

Good luck with your decision!

Thanks!

From what I am seeing the Brinsea is going to run $80 or so higher. I get into and out of egg hatching depending on my want/demand for chicks. I got the Mini for hatching a few eggs at the time but I just amazed me. My old Hovabator has been beat banged and misabused but still works. My idea was to try the Mini and if I liked it I would sell it and upgrade but I am not ready to part with it yet :) I am still swaying both ways...being able to use the Hovabator as a mini brooder being it main advantage at the moment.
