The chick was hatched less than two days ago. She was very very weak, I had to help her out during the last stage of hatching. I have been leaving her in the incubator. I found her left leg was twisted externally, and the joint and feet were swollen. Please see the picture. I think her toe must have stuck in one of the holes of the hatching pad and dislocated her leg. But I am not sure. Please see the pictures.

I have been reading here and online, and decided to make her a chair in the cup. I tried to align her leg and wrapped it with vet wrap, but I don’t think I was able to align it well. She was in so much pain when I tried to do it. She doesn’t seem to want to eat or drink. She tried to get out of the chair constantly.

I gave her electrolyte with vitamins manually. Your thoughts and advice on whether I have done it right and what else I can do to help her is appreciated.

It looks like it could be a slipped tendon. The leg is discolored possibly from bruising. I think the chicken sling is fine for making it easier to eat and drink, but after a day or to of rest, it may be good to let the chick try to get around some and exercise. It could also be a rotated tibia leg bone deformity. I am certainly not an expert on what you should do, but here is good thread about a pea chick with a slipped tendon that had some success; start reading in post 11 when they have visited the vet:

Here is some reading about leg bone deformities:

Thank you so much!

Please let us know how your chick gets along.
This is she in the cup. Her leg looks better and inflammation seems to go down a little. I gave her some aspirin last night. Maybe it helped. I am thinking of unwrapping it now to see how it goes. But some YouTube videos said unwrapping it every 24 hours, the other said twice a day.

What do you think?

Hi! Did this little chick make it? I really love your chick cup design.
